Well this is just the weirdest weather ever. 26 degrees in darkness and just in time for daylight, the temp has plummeted to 18 and it's starting to rain a little bit.

It was 21 at Moss Vale in complete darkness, only to drop to 10C by daylight. These temps would've been converted to record breaking August temps had they have been during the afternoon.

Perisher should be starting to get snow after about 140mm of rain.

Would be an absolute disaster zone there this morning.

I did a bit of investigation in past seasons. Temperature anomalies in Sydney in early Spring* have virtually no correlation with those of the following Summer. That would most likely apply to areas in South / Central NSW East of the Divide. At some stage the circulation pattern in our latitude will flip into a more Easterly / Maritime pattern, which will be a different ballgame. Early heat could well be just a memory by November. As Derek above pointed out, September 1995 was actually a cool month after the hottest ever August. The stats for that year make it look like someone swapped around the columns for August and September.

* I think we can count August 2017 as early Spring.

For those interested, 24 August 2009 was a warmer overnight minimum for Sydney (20.2 if you define it as starting at 6pm, 19.9 with a 3pm start), but today's 22.1 at 6am is the highest 6am temperature on record for August.

What about 25.1 @ 5am for Albion Park? Record I would assume.

Bonkers night here as well. About 11 degrees yesterday evening but then the temp proceeded to rise and yo yo all night, peaking at around 19 degrees around 1 am to 2 am - absolutely crazy for here.

Now about 9 and much colder, very windy and also wet.

Yeah saw that Kino, but that was at 4:51 poke

I know right Dave, just imagine if this was in the hottest part of the day. Could've been mid 30's here if we nudge 26 on what is supposed to be the coldest time of the day.

Just realised that our August record max is only 28.0 so we were nearly within 2 degrees of breaking that record at 5am, and it's the warmest we have been this month!! poke

Warmest max this month was 25.0 so this morning's effort trumped that. Can't believe how hot it can get at night under the right conditions.

Damn hot in western newie. So dry. Seeing I dig trenches for a living I get to experience first hand how hard or soft the ground can be due to weather. And it is &loody hard I can tell you. Very dry despite the bit of drizzle yesterday.

Sorry, I'm lost, what's the deal about 5am? 25.6 is a new max-min record, smashing the previous by 9c!. But Albion Park is relatively new site (opened 1999) so unsure of the longer term.

It's just a round number, that's all. Would be easier to compare all the 5am's than the 4:51am's, if that makes sense.

And it has to be compared that way because the min was way lower early in the night.

Wind starting to pick up again.

ahhhh I see now, cheers. And yeah, I just realised the min record won't be broken as it was only 10c at midnight. Dang. Oh well. Pity it didn't break 28, would could have broken the max record at night ha ha

DavidM - we had 19 here at about 1 am - you shoulda been here smile

9.8 here, now rising a little again. Only 1 or 2mm here this morning. Fairly common number for the area it seems.

Windy and overcast here, slowly cooling down. Sites around Sydney have had gusts above 80Kph, including the Airport, Richmond and Bellambi.

Sites around Sydney are now around 18-19 and some, including OH, look set to drop below last night's 'minimum'.

31.1 at Kempsey Airport at 11:00, 30.0 at Taree Airport. Further North isn't as hot yet.

Perisher is below zero now, and have been below 1 since about 7:00 with precipitation. it must be snowing there now. Thredbo has been below zero since 7:00 but with no precip since around then.
