I reckon GFS pretty well nailed this warmth.

Anyway getting reasonably blowy here too, probably gusting around the 60-70kmph mark.

Gusty and dusty. More cloud. Temp leveled off.
Very hot mid north coast. Yamba now 30. It got to 36 around the same time in August way back in 1946. Now that is warm.

@Eddy. Concrete for lunch. mmm Yum. he he he

Wind not quite as windy in the northern gong as I thought.

Alps got 130mm of rain yesterday. Creeks running across the snow.

Sat pic looking amazing though. All will be right by the weekend.

That is the record I could not find!
I had seen it in some Melbourne University publication. (might have even been Blair's records)
Of course, it was bettered in 2009 by Evans Head and Mungindi.
Yamba itself got to 36.1C during 2009, and beat it's own record as well.
I have seen Yamba as much as 12C below Evans Head in the past eg 1st Dec 2004), so to come close to it is amazing.

46 knots at Albion Park just a few mins ago. Impressive. Best of the Illawarra so far.

I'd call it worst of the Illawarra personally. Lol.

Hit 31-33 across the Northern Rivers and Mid North Coast, with Coffs reaching 33.2C. Bit of a teaser as to what we could've seen if the warmth this morning passed over at the right time.

Certainly some heat on the mid to north coast today.
@Derek
I think the 36.1 at Yamba in 2009 was equal to 1946. The 1946 temp was a little more impressive as it was ten days earlier in the calendar.
Not sure if any records were set up that way today.

Yes WR. Timing is everything. Can make or break a record.

No significant August records but a few warmest-so-early ones (Port Macquarie and Coffs Harbour being the most significant).

I wonder if the 25 at Tocal at 5:30am has ever happened in August before?

This wind is just ridiculous, gusting to 83km/h at Bellambi and only getting worse.

I'm listening to music with earphones (the ones that are meant to block out sound) and I can still hear the gusts of wind!! Have to turn it up obnoxiously loud to drown out the sound.

Yet doing this is just not enough. Surely getting close to, if not beyond 100km/h.

Interesting pressure graph for yesterday, very reminiscent of a passing cyclone - steady decline, big dip, and then rapid increase. Pressure bottomed out at 994hpa.

Was pleasant here, now the bloody wind has returned frown and will get worse this evening. Tomorrow looks downright stiff with a probable SWW issued this evening IMO.

-2 this morning - good frost, sunny with increasing numbers of small clouds. Only a light breeze here.

Currently about 10 or 11, feels nice in the sun, don't need a jumper in the sun at the moment. smile

And yep just like that the winds have arrived, although not overly strong at this stage, probably about the 40kmph mark!!

Latest EC ensemble looks tasty, with a deep thermal trough developing around the end of August with widespread heavy rain/storms across eastern NSW. Very early days but a shift in the patterns?

I seriously think that the above average SST's off the coast hurt us in winter, focusing all convection over them. Perhaps cooler SST's are better for winter rains, and warmer SST's for summer rains etc.
