New radar

I assume the radar that will be upgraded will be Appin? Or Kurnell?

I LOL'ed so hard at the line

They used to say that about doppler too

And the US has had this type of radar for years and they seem to be able to cope with "interpreting it" so damn patronising smirk

Snow possible above 1300 metres tomorrow in the Hunter, but only 1200 metres on the Mid North Coast> how does that work?
Fortunately very few people live at those elevations anyway, it is nearly all national parks.
Still looking at a wintry day regardless.

I am guessing that snow level forecasts for the Barringtons are based upon different forecasts for the mid North Coast and the Hunter, the boundary of which passes through the Barringtons. Maybe it's based upon a freezing level which is forecast separately for each district.

Another possibility might be related to aspect. The Hunter side of the Barringtons slopes to the West and South, the Mid Coast side to the North and East.

--------

This morning it seemed that the forecast of 17 for Sydney undershot by a few degrees, but we had a Southerly / scumtherly / scudtherly pass through around the middle of the day. The afternoon was cool, windy and partly cloudy, 'wintry' even.

Today's forecast of 18C, upgraded from 17C, with all days 18-21C the next few days and chance of showers ( <1mm), every day for the next week.
Real ho-hum weather, but we'll just have to grin and bear it.

Yeah the aspect is probably the reason, and there may be onshore SE winds coming onto the Mid North Coast as well. (although it says SSW winds)
Also, there are some areas above 1200 metres further north on the Coffs escarpment, so they may be thinking about that too, although less chance up there one would think.

Yes that certainly doesn't surprise me Stormy3.

Still raining lightly here, so far 3.1mm since 9am. Breeze isn't overly strong atm. Temp struggling again today 11.3c, hopefully some breaks in the clouds soon.

Partly cloudy and about 15-16 here after 8-10 overnight at most Sydeny locations. It will probably shoot past the 17 forecast. There's been no rain, in fact little or none for 3 weeks at most Sydney sites.

Getting very dry here now with only 20.6mm since 1st July. I was really hoping to cop at least a few mm from yesterday.

It's been a dry Winter in Sydney.

At OH, normally a rain magnet, there's been 44mm since June 16 (10 weeks), about 20% of the average.

In fact, apart from a four day wet spell in June (7th to 10th) with 157 millimeters, it's been pretty dry since the early Autumn 'Monsoon' ended, with only 32mm falling from mid April to early June, a period when about 8 weeks in which 200mm+ would have been expected.

Cleared up rather nicely today, after a mostly cloudy morning. Southerly has got a bit of chill to it.
