0.9c and raining at my place this morning. Seriously. Was alternate periods of drizzle and little granules. Been a lot wetter than I thought this event would be at my place.

ok report from home is that at 8.15 it changed over to snow for a few minutes of excitement. It seems that snow only falls at my house if I am not there...

Good call TB, with more time this arvo' looked up the weekly Rainfall Table it reads -

"85270 MITCHELL RIVER @ GLENALADALE 1333.4 147.37 37.76 40"

1333.4mm is a little unlikely !!!

http://www.bom.gov.au/watl/rainfall/observations/index.shtml

No rain, cloudy here all day, brief glimpse of Mt. WELLINGTON round 1545hrs, some extra cover
but not all that much. Maybe tonight for this area. Lack of precip. is the snow killer!!

Thanks for yr report Ruckle, it's one of those, "You had to be there" things I guess...lol

Traveled home from Loy Yang under NE'ly heading snotty cold (7C under it at work when I left) coldie shower. Beat it home and emptied out 0.5mm from a shower or two last night. Baro stuck for the 3rd day at 1001 hPa, then the coldie delivered 20 mins of rain here.14.9 C max fell to 10 C under it!

....let it rain its guts out tonight, then provide a dry cold arvo tomorrow for the 1st day of the Royal Maffra Golf tournament tomoz!

This morning is calm, 8C (same as Sale) and 4.5mm last night, total rain in the gauge was 5.5mm for the month, all from this week.

Plenty of dark cloud about, glimpse of Mt Well. and more snow since y'day. A moderate fall but with rain up there of 2.4mm the snow depth is commensurate with that low rainfall.

These cold fronts are looking "brilliant" online but not really getting that cold locally as we go thru' the forecast period.

(And sheep being sheep and women being women, better half told me I'd end up pulling "Snowies" lamb as it happens every year - who remembers these things..lol.

At 0530 this AM delivered a back to front (rear legs first) thumper ram lamb to Snowy, it was standing within 10 minutes and will continue to probably be the best lamb in the mini mob as per prev. years.)

Hogan Isle 132kph @ 0202hrs, that'd blow the froth of yr Cappucino.

Warragul 20mm and Latrobe Valley 17mm, hopeful for snow @ dooga's place, but might not have been cold enough ?

It's to do with the Great Dividing Range. The cloud cover moves over western NSW unimpeded and then it condenses further as it gets forced up the GDR. But then air gets drier on the lee side of the ranges (ie. Sydney) and the cloud dissipates on the coast.

Thanks Wave Rider , i didn't think of Great Dividing Range as just like Melbourne low clouds moves to Great Dividing Range and dissipates as Northern Country clear when air is dryer.

Same in New Zealand clouds dissipates over the mountains on East-side.

WZ snow report for BAWBAW 5-10CM tonight.

http://www.weatherzone.com.au/snow/report/vic/mt-baw-baw

Low level tonight ? doesn't look that much different or better than recent cold fronts, don't give it a chance under say 900m.

This is a W.A.G. grin

Cool windy (W'ly) day here, 17C, only the odd spitting patch, showers last night gave us 0.25mm.

I ended up with a handy 12.5mm from this event smile

Plugging couch at Royal Maffra this arvo, grass is growing OK despite moisture only 25mm deep, soil dry below that. Soil temp still way below 10C @ 10cm - not going to change much if "last hurrah" frosts arrive Sun/Mon?

Only the odd glimpse of snow up on the ranges today, very cloudy up there, but from what I saw - there's plenty up there.

Lake Glenmaggie 82% full I'm told, so must be only a week or two away from a prolonged flush of our McAlister River downstream into the Gippy Lake system.

Mt Buller snow season has been extended to Oct 8th!
