Gfs and access charts are off the scale
For cold, sustained low level snow
For this thread period lol

If gfs comes off then it will be snowing at
My place for nearly two days 😂😂😂😯

Very interesting is cold uppers in southern ocean still kicking warmth out Northern Australia by polar belt.

Everybody wants END cold nights as felt long cold winter.

We will have just few quick warmth NW wind slips to SE Australia, and sad cold nights and frost still keep going.

Nice samboz, it shows a shaded spot
Right over me😀😀

Jane bun all in with snow to 400m on
Monday and 300m Tuesday 😯😯❄️❄️

If this forecasts holds, then we could have a
Length period of snow to very low levels
Which may cause some issues on roads
Ect could be interesting

Very interesting weather coming
From Sunday arvo through Wednesday 👍
Big period of very low snow which hopefully
Will result in some sort of cover at my place??

Potential for snow just in the air or 5cm on
The ground ?
Wonder which way this one will go?

Yep coldest air of the season on the way next week, long duration event too with the SW polar jet coming from the Antarctic shelf pointed straight at SE AUS.

Gonna be long duration wind event as well, with loads of showers gusty winds etc.

Low level snow, gales, heavy falls on coasts and elevated parts alps will get lots of snow.

Is it Oct yet so over the cold.

One last month of winter lol

Spring always Oct to Dec here and Summer Jan to March

Yep watching with interest, will have a good look at it tomorrow. Doesn't look much colder at 850 hpa than last cold blast but above that it is colder. Wait and see.

Yeah i think 400-500 is looking good -4-5c at 850 at times is pretty good.

Only worry for me is the W, WNW, WSW, air flow so getting moisture further inland might be issue for Macedon further inland parts that dont do well in that air flow.
But any shower if you get it will snow and with very cold uppers a warmer sun should get convection during the day.

Mount Donna and Lake Mountion be buried as to W and S Tassie and the Alps.

Think you will see snow for sure doogasnow but another 100-150m higher will def get big thick covering

Hopefully this "last gasp - winters blast" will put an end to the bloody frosts we've resumed again here in N Gippsland over the past few days!

Funny day here, was expecting strong NW'lies by the local forecast, but it was mostly calm, spitting at times post lunch, then had a sharp 0.25mm shower circa 4:30pm.

Mild at golf, felt like a storm could have brewed.

If significant snow falls this week, will be great for Vic (NSW??) catchments. Also in line with a "normal rain" expectation for Victoria this spring - as most climatologists predict from my observations.

Looking forward to Dooga's photo's, and also Samboz's snaps of Mt Wellington whenever the chance is presented. Wellington looked great today with plenty of snow area clearly visible from Royal Maffra Golf Club.

One encouraging thing is the speed the system is moving at, usually helps transport the polar air characteristics better if a fast mover. Just needs to not pass to the south.

Given the quite reasonable rainfall forecast for BAW BAW dooga' you could do well snowfall wise, it seems cold enough in the forecast.

Here is the BAW BAW forecast, looks good grin

http://www.bom.gov.au/vic/forecasts/mountbawbaw.shtml

Monday/Tuesday still the 400m days.

Off topic as will need its own thread if it stays progged and CA did allude to this but holy s##t at 00z EC run. 40mm of mixed precip forecast for here Friday into Saturday.

Just need enough of a low to form on the initial change tomorrow to pull that mass to the SW a little bit northward..

Much like last weekend - ice pellets, snow, rain, hail, graupel/soft pellets except lots of it.

Pretty windy for a north wind here at home atm.

See 115kph at MtBuller last night, as per BOM warning for damaging Northerlys in Alpine areas.

Interesting weather in the next week or so.

Roaring wind here TB, Moornapa was 80kph earlier, at home currently 23.5C, saw 24.5C at 0830.

That fire at Dargo Rd will be an escaped private burn off I'm tipping.

Strongest wind for quite some months, almost years.

Yes, Samboz - quite exceptional conditions. Re the fires: I'm sure you're right - will be escaped burn-off (I've been out to check a couple of piles we were burning yesterday arvo). The Caastleburn (Dargo) fire now listed as "Safe". One still going near Ensay and one at Swift's Crk. There will be more from (as you say) burning off or untended burns from yesterday.

Why not as excited now ruck?
System downgraded for your area?

Must admit the high pressure on gfs is
Trying to squash the whole thing a little
Further south compared to last night,
But access g and r still looking pretty good.
There is a lot of nor west to westerly aspect
With this system which may not help us?
Needs to straighten up a little from the south west.

Bushfires lol we getting the whole mixed bag with
This system that's for sure! Lol
Very very warm 18c with very strong wind!

That system later in the week nearly looks as
Good as this one now!

Yeah still worried about the NW WNW nature of this system really need to get a bit more W, but more so solid SW push to the real cold air and moisture getting inland.

Still a cold windy low level snow at times week ahead and staying that way into next weekend and early the following weekend.

A great July Aug week coming up BOO lol

Fire was an unattended campfire. A little disappointing that people still don't extinguish their camp fires. luckily it has been wet and isn't in the full blown summer. Big increase in out of control burns today as the embers get fanned back to life in the wind.

See obs, - 96kph at Moornapa 1021/1030 this am, it certainly looked like it here. Bought down one 10" limb from a Red Gum, missed fence as it fell from up high and sailed over fence before landing.

Samboz was on the ball re the wind. This area and my spot in particular is generally sheltered from N and NW winds but today they were horrendously strong and consistent over several hours.

To me (in my ignorance) I found it interesting that the strongest winds were not *on* the front but well ahead of it and that the front almost *slid* in by comparison.

No rain of consequence.

In the city gutted by this report from home just now

"It started as rain, then hail and sleet in it (with the odd blob) then a very brief period of all sleet with some blobs and eventually all snow. It was about 5.5 degrees when it started. 1.9c at end"

Missed it R. oh well next time or tonight if yr home.

Going to be interesting by dawn tomorrow, Gippsland has rain, 528 cold air and -4C uppers, dooga' is looking for ski's.

Had good look at MT WELLINGTON this AM, then a peek at 1700 this arvo' , moderate fresh snow fall obvious since this morning.

Hoping for some solid white views in the morning if it's as good here as doogas area adjacent to Baw Baw.

1mm in last few days, currently light breeze and 11C.

Edit:- Re 300m comment dooga, sounds fav. for yr place !! grin

Coming home from the LV before, could see low level snow up on the ranges from Mt Useful eastwards, to 600 - 700 M in my opinion.

Found a handy 2.75mm in my gauge from early morning showers (3.75mm from this event), experiencing a light shower now, first since early morning.

Get those camera's out Dooga/Samboz/Ruckle et al, if there's a clear slot tomorrow morning, the hill should look impressive!

Had our first shower of hail and then turned
To wet snow about an hour ago.
Temp drop from 6c to 2.8c.

Radar now dried up!! But like u guys say there's
528 action right up over Gippsland until at least
10am according to gfs and plenty of precip, so
Hopefully those showers will push up and
Deliver a blanket of snow by the morning??

6C this morning with patchy cloud, the high country is obscured with light coloured cloud, MtWell obs 1.2mm since 0900 4/9 so not expecting huge white view when it clears.

(Like to see dark, even brownish tinge cloud to think snow up there.)

No rain here o/night but plenty others N/E of here did well. Thought I caught local ABC report of 25mm at Swifts Creek and see 10mm at Omeo.

Good call TB, with more time this arvo' looked up the weekly Rainfall Table it reads -

"85270 MITCHELL RIVER @ GLENALADALE 1333.4 147.37 37.76 40"

1333.4mm is a little unlikely !!!

http://www.bom.gov.au/watl/rainfall/observations/index.shtml

No rain, cloudy here all day, brief glimpse of Mt. WELLINGTON round 1545hrs, some extra cover
but not all that much. Maybe tonight for this area. Lack of precip. is the snow killer!!

Thanks for yr report Ruckle, it's one of those, "You had to be there" things I guess...lol

Traveled home from Loy Yang under NE'ly heading snotty cold (7C under it at work when I left) coldie shower. Beat it home and emptied out 0.5mm from a shower or two last night. Baro stuck for the 3rd day at 1001 hPa, then the coldie delivered 20 mins of rain here.14.9 C max fell to 10 C under it!

....let it rain its guts out tonight, then provide a dry cold arvo tomorrow for the 1st day of the Royal Maffra Golf tournament tomoz!

This morning is calm, 8C (same as Sale) and 4.5mm last night, total rain in the gauge was 5.5mm for the month, all from this week.

Plenty of dark cloud about, glimpse of Mt Well. and more snow since y'day. A moderate fall but with rain up there of 2.4mm the snow depth is commensurate with that low rainfall.

These cold fronts are looking "brilliant" online but not really getting that cold locally as we go thru' the forecast period.

(And sheep being sheep and women being women, better half told me I'd end up pulling "Snowies" lamb as it happens every year - who remembers these things..lol.

At 0530 this AM delivered a back to front (rear legs first) thumper ram lamb to Snowy, it was standing within 10 minutes and will continue to probably be the best lamb in the mini mob as per prev. years.)

Hogan Isle 132kph @ 0202hrs, that'd blow the froth of yr Cappucino.

Warragul 20mm and Latrobe Valley 17mm, hopeful for snow @ dooga's place, but might not have been cold enough ?

It's to do with the Great Dividing Range. The cloud cover moves over western NSW unimpeded and then it condenses further as it gets forced up the GDR. But then air gets drier on the lee side of the ranges (ie. Sydney) and the cloud dissipates on the coast.

Thanks Wave Rider , i didn't think of Great Dividing Range as just like Melbourne low clouds moves to Great Dividing Range and dissipates as Northern Country clear when air is dryer.

Same in New Zealand clouds dissipates over the mountains on East-side.

WZ snow report for BAWBAW 5-10CM tonight.

http://www.weatherzone.com.au/snow/report/vic/mt-baw-baw

Low level tonight ? doesn't look that much different or better than recent cold fronts, don't give it a chance under say 900m.

This is a W.A.G. grin

Cool windy (W'ly) day here, 17C, only the odd spitting patch, showers last night gave us 0.25mm.

I ended up with a handy 12.5mm from this event smile

Plugging couch at Royal Maffra this arvo, grass is growing OK despite moisture only 25mm deep, soil dry below that. Soil temp still way below 10C @ 10cm - not going to change much if "last hurrah" frosts arrive Sun/Mon?

Only the odd glimpse of snow up on the ranges today, very cloudy up there, but from what I saw - there's plenty up there.

Lake Glenmaggie 82% full I'm told, so must be only a week or two away from a prolonged flush of our McAlister River downstream into the Gippy Lake system.

Mt Buller snow season has been extended to Oct 8th!

Did a check, Glenmaggie is only 65% full atm:

A moot point really, there is enough snow melt to come from up top to fill it 2 times over in my experience.

Interesting to see the dairy farmers are irrigating around this region right now. Very early!

.....I guess most are paying out $$ for the bird in hand, prior to seasonal allocation announcement due later in spring.
