My data is up.

No rain at all in August, and only 7 mm since June. The lawn's taking on the character of corn flakes.

August made 21st century records for low early morning dew point, both the individual value (-10.0) and the monthly mean (-2.8). I call that "arid". The daily temperature range was an August record, there were few cloudy mornings, and only one day of rain.
For the first time in years, there is a rainfall shortage. The two-month tatal of 27 mm is at the 6th percentile: a serious shortage. Totals for periods longer than two months remain quite adequate, however.

As always, my 3-year trend graphs for climate anomalies are six months behind because of the need for drastic smoothing. I can say now that last summer saw peaks in anomalies of high temperature and low moisture. It was a peak of aridity, but that peak was not as arid as, and no hotter than earlier peaks, even the two shown on the current 3-year graphs.

The remarkable thing about the drift of climate at Manilla this winter was the dew point. As you see, the early morning dew point fell steadily further and further below the early morning minimum temperature. By the end of August the dew point depression was more than five degrees. That is extremely dry air.

Autumn had been moist. Winter ended very dry.
Forecasters don't seem very confident about where it will go next.
