Not my cup of tea, cold showers. Already down to our overnight low of 5C, could well be another frost tomorrow morning for the 1st day of spring. (if not on my car at home, certainly at work)

So, Spencers Creek announced 189 cm cover today. With another dump next week (possibly) 50-70 cm's, we could be looking at almost 250 cm's of cover in the alps by this time next week. It's actually been a pretty good ski season tbh. It was just a bit slow to kick off.

No one believes me when I say I showered with cold water all winter. I got a relative who raves on about being environmentally conscious, but hangs out in the shower for an hour or more. I am in and out in 3 minutes. Mind you, I am showering after work and not before, so it is a tad warmer. Wow cold showers all winter. Was that by choice? I could not do that, I love hot showers but I also don't hang in the shower for 1 hour or more. 30 mins max but generally 10-15 mins for me.

@WR a conscious decision. I saw a thing on some Russians dunking themselves in icey water in winter and I got hooked. @Steve. I could do less than 3 mins but I am often either covered in dust or mud at times.
Wind is bitey again.

Wind is bitey again. Cold showers are actually very good for muscle regeneration (athletes) and weight loss, but terrible for shrinkage.

Interesting climatology for Wollongong for September - avg max temp jumps almost 3c (from Aug 18.8 to 21.3) yet avg min temp drops 0.2c (from Aug 8.8. to 8.6), rainfall also drops an average 10mm. So that speaks of plenty of days of high pressure & clear nights and not a lot else.

T'is an interesting outlook. Seems to be hinting at a stormier spring for a change. If it was more rainfall events, you'd expect cooler day time temps and warmer night time temps (due to cloud cover etc).
Hopefully it comes true!

Great pic Steve, nothing finer than a wattle in full bloom (save maybe a Waratah but they are so rare these days). And a MAJOR LOL at WeatherZone today, after one 1 week ago heralding the end of the snow season, they post this today: Plenty of snow for spring skiing Ben Domensino, Friday September 1, 2017 - 11:41 EST Australia's 2017 snow season just keeps on getting better.
The natural snow depth at Spencers Creek was 189.5cm on Thursday this week. This is a new peak for the current season and the highest level measured at the site in five years.
Eight of the last nine weeks have seen an overall snow gain in the alps, which is an impressive feat for Australia. This achievement reflects the cool and dry weather Australia's alps experienced during July and August.
Entering spring with this much snow on the slopes will ensure that there is plenty of cover at Australia's main ski resorts during the opening weeks of the season. Some resorts have even announced they will be extending their ski season in early October.
If this isn't enough to get Australian snow-lovers excited about spring skiing, there's more good news on the horizon.
A pulse of cold air will bring another decent round of fresh snow early next week, with the potential for more than half a metre of fresh snow between Sunday and Wednesday.
Next week's snow depth reading at Spencer's Creek should be above two metres for the first time since 2012. Now, that's amazing for the Alps, and eventually the Murray you'd hope, but this confused me a tad: Eight of the last nine weeks have seen an overall snow gain in the alps, which is an impressive feat for Australia. This achievement reflects the cool and dry weather Australia's alps experienced during July and August. Snow is made of water; and the snow is from natural falls; so how the heck is it the result of "dry weather"? That's pure garbage.

Because cool and dry weather has allowed any snow that has fallen to freeze and refreeze, rather than melting. So even one singular 10cm fall in an otherwise dry week still could've resulted in a net gain. Any significant rain event that has occurred has been replaced with more snow too. Yes nice pic Steve. Happy wattle day to you.

Happy wattle day to you. Read it again - "8 of the last nine weeks have seen overall snow gain.." that clearly means it hasn't been dry...before that defin yes. And the BoM maps for August show a swathe of "above average" with a dash of "very much above average" rainfall.

Well I would assume they mean between the snow events. Like the very cold nights that the Alps has had, such as -10's at Perisher AWS. You could still get snow gain in a "dry week". If one day out of a week got decent snow, I would call that a pretty dry week anyway. That one day of snow would result in a net gain for the week if there was no net loss of snow. Btw it's another cold day, sigh. This cold weather makes me annoyed, so sorry if I come across a bit like that.

I could tolerate it if the skies were clear and it was a nice day, but it's really not that pleasant with passing clouds and cold wind.
