This event is looking more and more likely with each forecast revision, so here is a place for you to put your predictions/observations.

I'll note in passing that snow appears in the forecast for Orange, Lithgow and Katoomba. It's only 'possible' but looks a good chance. It's cold enough, with the blue line way North of the Central Tablelands in EC, ACCESS and GFS, as is the 850 zero degree isotherm. GFS looks best.

As always this year, moisture could be better.

A snow icon also appears in the Goulburn forecast, but not Canberra.

Moisture looks pretty damn good to me in 06z GFS, should be up to 10cm of snow, maybe even more in exposed areas. This is very exciting.

The title needs to be changed to read "Central/Southern Tablelands Snow 14th September 2017".
Would a moderator please make the change?

Hey everyone! Great to see a thread started on this event, thanks snowforus.

I've been watching MetEye's interpretation of the models over the last couple of days on this series of fronts. Interesting to see it's still showing a good chance of some decent snowfalls around the district.

I think it will come down to moisture - it'll be cold enough, but how much moisture?

I'm currently at Perthville - was at Mount David - thinking of heading to Mandurama for the night. Mando snow would be ace - I missed the last event.

I still haven't set up my Davis weather station since selling the old property. Maybe I should cable tie it to a fence post? smile

Stay safe everyone.

Drew.

Good to hear from you in your new digs Drew. Go get that Davis up on a strainer post and running...would be handy to have some numbers covering your neck of the woods. They are few and far between.

Yep, its the usual story with the snow: temps borderline favourable; moisture borderline unfavourable.

BoM snow day forecast for Orange, Thurs: pptn 70% chance; amount <1mm. Lets hope Wednesday's more favourable rainfall progs (90%; 5-10mm) spill over into Thursday!

Orange is now the only survivor in the snow stakes, I reckon.

I am still standing with 10cm falls for the exposed areas and I would be a bit surprised if Lithgow saw nothing. The coldest air will come after the moisture but there still should a fair bit of snow above 1000m in those exposed areas like Oberon Plateau, Canobolas, Sunny Corner/Yetholme etc.

11.6C here. 86% RH.
Been lightly raining for about an hour. 1 mm so far.

Sounds lovely on an old tin roof. I better get the fire lit.

Drew.

Timing not real good for moisture and cold, kind of a shame really. Should still be some anyway in the higher parts.

It's been raining constant at Mandurama since sundown. 16 mm and counting.

6.9C 85% rh outside.

Mandurama is at 660 metres above sea level on the western edge of the Central Tablelands of New South Wales. This westerly flow combined with the rapid orographic effect of the landscape around here is really squeezing the moisture out of the system.

Is there anyone on here out on the Oberon plateau - I'm curious what the temperature is up there.

Hey Drew, not at Oberon myself but my old man has a vantage vue at his place in Edith, and going off the past he is generally 1.5 - 2 degrees cooler than this one in Hampton https://www.wunderground.com/personal-weather-station/dashboard?ID=INEWSOUT418

Really need to setup his NBN and get the Davis online

Ha! What an absolute fizzer of an event. Forecasters have had snow predicted for over a week as low as 600m in the central tablelands. At 6am this morning at 1390m ASL there was rain, wind and warm temps. Forecast should have been 'high chance of spring rain, wind and fog above 1300m.

We've been getting some sago since 8am. For the past 10 minutes or so it's been real flakey snow. Flakes are about 5mm across.
