Hi all, atm a mother whale is resting at the surface in between Middleton Point and Bashams' Beach Park. Currently the temp. is 10c. so you can stay warm in the car, and still have a good view. Hardly any other whale watchers around. I presume she will stay for awhile to teach the young one new skills and put on weight.

The above Whale continues to rest at the surface here and is very easy to spot as the sea is quite calm. I am sure anyone travelling on the Cockle train (which is choofing from Victor to Goolwa for the Holidays) would have a bird's eye view too. Cheers, Liz.

If you are in the vicinity of Victor Harbor today, come on down and whale watch. ATM a mother and calf are very close to the shore just off the carpark by the skate ramp. The sea is very calm so photography would be easy. If you are travelling down the town entrance road just after Brocks real estate turn first road on the left, go across the railway line, cross over the foreshore road and drive into the carpark adjacent to the skate ramp complex. The whales will be easily spotted. Junior was spy hopping while I was watching so he is quite active, while mother is resting at the surface.

Hi Sean, yes, Humpbacks were sighted up at Port Augusta, by the power station area I think. I hope they call in to Victor, which they have done in the past. The Southern Rights have been in the Bay here for the last two days that I know of, and I presume they will stay for awhile. They certainly have aroused a lot of interest, because they are so close - you feel that you could swim out to them, which of course is something you cannot do! One thing about Whale watching in the Bay at Victor there are so many good viewing spots, even while walking across to Granite Island they can be easily seen. Cheers, Liz.

Hi all, a Southern Right Whale was sighted yesterday near Victor Harbor.
This is good timing, as celebrations for the commencement of the Whale season are on Saturday in Victor Harbor.

Hi all - just browsing the S.A Whale Centre web page and interesting to note that in May a Blue Whale was sighted in the waters off the S.A./W.A. border.
The recent locally sighted Whale was near Olivers Reef (V/Hbr) yesterday blowing and swimming.
The S.A. whale info hotline 1900931223.
Bring your Parka and enjoy some whale watching.

Middleton was at its best today as shown by fantastic footage on Ch10 (S.A.) news tonight. A Southern Right whale was resting at the surface of a almost calm sea whilst Dolphins swam closely, and, nearby seals frolicked.

Hi everyone. The South Coast has had a fantastic start to the Whale season according to the local paper.
There is a picture with the article showing a whale blowing just outside the breakers at Middleton and nearby is someone surfing.
Whales have been sighted almost every day for the past two weeks.
The S.A Whale Centre had a report last Tuesday that a man had been knocked off his surfboard by a whale and thankfully was unhurt. Another surfer reported that at times the whales got to only about 15 metres away from him. On Wednesday there were up to six whales in the Encounter Bay area.

Hi all, after a great morning of whale watching, I just had to let you know that if you are in the Middleton area call in to Basham Beach and enjoy the whales.
The whales are very active, consequently there were a few cameras on tripods along the dune top! The sea was reasonably calm, with a nice line of surf.
There were two huge mothers and young spy hopping, pec slapping, bow riding and body rolling.
Of course the occasional tail slap happened to delight the crowd and with them showing off just over 200m. from us we could hear them blowing.

Hi all, for any interested tourists, the whales are still at Basham Beach! They have been there for ages and as the young are looking quite plump they may move on soon.
Today, they were very close to the shore and viewing was great due to a calm sea.
