Does this mean we get a public holiday for the special event on 28th September? I wonder if it will be an annual event!

First 10 days showing the extent of the dry air locally.

Av dew point first 10 days 5C, the normal being 12C. This has allowed cold overnight temps with the average grass min temp to date 5.8C with the normal being 9.6C.

Although the max temps have been above average to date at 24.8C, the normal being 24.4C, the dry air has allowed the mins to drop way down with the average min to date 9.6C, the normal being 13.0C, making the overall Sept temp anomaly to date minus 1.5C. Forecast warmer weather next week should lift this.

Such dry air to follow Thursday's frontal system. I know it's only September but this pattern is eerily similar to last summer. So much low pressure smothering the Tasman Sea with high pressure perched above it. We all complain about SE winds during spring & summer but make no mistake, we need them to bring moisture in from deep in the Coral Sea.

Just to show what I mean, I've done up a rough drawing, excuse the bad paint job. Red is the anti-clockwise rotation around the high, brown is the clockwise rotation around the low pressure in the Tasman Sea, black is a front next week. Notice how the high is sitting so far north? All it's doing is helping bring up all that dry air from the low pressure complex in the Tasman Sea, so when a front does move through there's no moisture gathered up to produce any rain ahead of it. I don't know what causes it but yeah...it's super annoying when the process just repeats itself for weeks on end.

Yep pretty much the past 10 years has been like that at the start of spring.

It was like that for most of last summer. It was this very pattern that saw many places north of Brisbane receive close to, if not their driest summers on record. NSW also faired very badly during this pattern. I know it's not that unusual to be seeing it at this time of year, I just hope it doesn't continue through summer again. If TC Debbie hadn't have ripped through the state when she did then we'd be looking at widespread drought currently, absolutely no doubt about it.

Unfortunately dry conditions are the norm for the state, would like to see more frontal systems heading into Oct. Will be watching on anyway and hoping for the best for what ever the weather you want who ever needs it.

I don't know if anyone's noticed but there is the chance of a bit of hit and miss shower or gusty thunderstorm activity later on Wed or early Thu with the front (but the majority looks inland in the south at this stage). Probably not a whole lot of rainfall reaching the ground though with the dry lower levels and many people near the coast might miss out altogether.
ACCESS-R currently has marginal instability and inverted-V soundings around.

Unseasonably hot temps again from tomorrow and especially Wed.

Fairly strong gusty N to NW winds just ahead of the front shifting W to SW early Thursday behind the front too.

Wouldn't be surprised if some fires became difficult to contain (if any managed to start).

Something needs to happen breaking this cycle of nothing,
Nothing on the horizon doesnt inspire confidence just optimism fuelling our thirst for a storm or two. I think last year this just happened, signaling a change of season around October.

It will break, it's just a matter of when. And when it does, we'll all be complaining that we've had enough rain poke

As for late weds/early thurs looks very much the same as the last front that came through. Though the mid levels look abit better with moisture, convection might be fairly high and LCL also very high and straight line winds not the most favorable setup. Think there will be the odd soark around with those lapse rates but as for precip will be lucky to get any at all. Models are showing some which it has none when we had this similar setup a couple of weeks ago.
