Yep, there's a new'ish version of ACCESS-C which has a similar purpose in providing very high resolution nowcast type guidance that wasn't available in the past in order to help in severe weather forecasts and warnings (fills the time gap between the very short term current radar imagery and the longer term standard models).

Models like these typically have horizontal resolution around 1km to 3km, ingest current radar data as part of the observation data (and in HRRR's case, it has 15min forecast time intervals rather than the more traditional hourly or 3-hourly).

Looks like another good dose of rain for the weekend with another upper & surface trough heading our way. WATL looks encouraging.
This is starting to feel like late 2010, hope it doesnt go that way.

Are early indications looking like the same areas will get the goods? The forecasts models have the same look to them as last week. Our forecasts have been downgraded to around 5mm each day, Friday and Saturday. Thanks.

GFS has a bit of instability later next week. A bit of a long way out but you never know.

Fair bit of a precipitation upgrade from this mornings BOM forecast for saturday.
We havnt had a real sunny day here since last friday, today was the best day since then with the solar panels doing a bit of work at last. Pity the one's who rely on them. A lesson there?

I don't know much about solar panels but I would've thought some cloudy days in a row wouldn't present that big of a problem because they have some storage capacity and/or most people could draw some conventional power off the grid?

I'm sure someone on here who uses them heavily could clarify that though.

Solar panels on their own dont store, only produce & when connected to the grid pays $.
Usually remote areas have solar with battery/ diesel or petrol generators. Cloudy days make solar panels very inefficient, the generators are a safety 'net'.
The same goes for the bigger systems as well. Thats why some people are waking up to that fact (nationally)
No sun, no power, no backup, STUFFED!

Yep, they get dirty all right. Clean mine every few months, when we had that dry spell we almost got into credit, dusty days are a bugger though. Looking forward to the next lot of rain Sat. What do you recon Ken?

But isn't the conventional power grid (when connected) or generators (in those remote areas) the backup?

I'm not sure why it always has to be a case of one or the other? Just because solar might have to be supplemented sometimes with another power source, it doesn't then mean it's useless. I have quite a few friends who've switched to solar and said they haven't looked back, and that their initial investment in it has been more than worth it. While I'm sitting here paying many hundreds of dollars each bill for conventional power especially in summer, they're saving hundreds of dollars with solar. Not to mention the much lower effects on the environment.

P.S. looking to get hotter later next week after this lush cool period.

Solar is by no means useless & fantastic when the sun is out but some think its the holy grail together with windmills. Not so.
There will always be a need for reliable power generators, diesel generators would be the last on the list pollution wise.
Sorry, so off topic.
It be good for a week of sunshine to do some MOWING!

Rainband will move through here from tomorrow afternoon and clear off during Saturday morning. Models are indicating there's a very high chance of 15-20mm falling here. There's the potential for more than that too (30mm is not out of the question. OCF has falls in the low to mid 30s on the northern MNC).

AccessG is now more keen than GFS on reasonable precip for SEQ on sat.
GFS takes it over the border.

Well, Jonty Hall(probably spelled it wrong) seemed optimistic of up to 30ml for parts, on the Toowoomba ABC. Probably very few will read this as I have heard about this ignore button but it is something I would never use. If people like Kaz63(if I got it wrong I apologize) are not posting because of me or a group of people including me it distresses me a lot and could somebody contact such people and tell them I am just going to restrict myself to simple weather statements and I want them to post.
SEABREEZE. I see your post above, and if I stray I want you to delete my post and BAN me, please.
Cheers.

Looks like GFS has upgraded our rainfall a bit here on the Southern Downs. Could be 50-75mm out this way. We officially need 29mm between now and the end of the month to avoid going with below normal rainfall for the month of October 2017. Just a fun fact.
Everything still pretty green out here, but it is very dry just underneath the surface. Let us hope we get some much needed rain before the warm NW winds return by late next week.

Latest meteogram from GFS for Brisbane showing that increasing instability and shear later next week ahead of the trough system.

Hotter than normal conditions kicking in later next week as well then possibly continuing some ways into the week after (the NAEFS map is for the 7-14 day period but the heat should start a bit before then):

I noticed the NOAA/NESDIS SST anomalies have not updated this morning but looking at Ken's top chart there is a lot of well above average SST's off the central east coast. Hope that continues right through summer. It may help.

Ken's temp chart reminded me a "typical" La-nina SST chart. Come to think of it the build up to this years wet season has a very 2010ish feel to it

Totally agree, might be a few interesting months ahead for many. Great to see green again instead of dirty dead brown
