Some impressively low dew points in the state's west now. Readings I would only expect to find at alpine sites under an inversion.

You see those in the interior every now and again at this time of year. Places like Alice Springs and Giles sometimes hit the -30s or -40s (not that there's that much difference in the amount of moisture between a dewpoint of -15 and one of -30: the relationship between dewpoint and water vapour pressure goes very nonlinear at such low levels).

Big difference between 180m ASL (western NSW) and 600m ASL (Alice Springs) though????

Another ridiculously over-forecasted day here - 25 forecast; 22.8 reached (just above-average).

Wollongong was forecast at 24; topped out at a colder than average 19.6. Woeful performance really.

Should be some sunsets around the place tonight - all this dusty crud in the sky will surely give a lot of colour smile

Another ridiculously over-forecast minimum - 10 was the forecast min, bottomed out at 3c which is 7c below the forecast and 5 below average.

The next week also has zero rain forecast.
There has only been 30mm of rain in over 3 months since after the June long weekend here.
Looks like this will go on for a while yet, feel sorry for the farmers more than anyone.

Really hard to forecast temperatures in current very shallow sea breeze inversions, with NW/W winds just 500-600m above. You do not know just how much NW is going to mix down, or like yesterday the inversion holds steadfast. Yesterday got to 24C at Moss Vale at 678m, while the coastal strip remained very "spring" like. Your best guide although not always reliable is the smogo meter, yesterday it was a classic Los Angeles look. Sea breeze strength is unreliable, as strong NW winds aloft can actually reinforce the sea breeze.

I'm around Kino poke

Ozthunder, I thought the haze yesterday was from the seabreeze but it wasn't because Bowral was exactly the same air quality with no seabreeze when I arrived yesterday arvo. Same smokey light coloured sky again. I (and a few others) are thinking it's dust or smoke in the air way above.

Good point, it sure looks like dust being sucked in from inland with this dry hot airmass?

Certainly would be dry enough I would think and windy enough aloft. Maybe a duststorm will occur somewhere when the wind comes up, maybe Sunday. Almost 8 years to the day where got the big dust storm on 23rd Sept 2009.

Should be crystal clear air with such a dry airmass

They're watching the dust a bit more closely in the NE NSW/SE QLD thread

In Singo, we are used to dust. But ours is usually black.

Amazing variance atm in the Illawarra - the coast is hotter north with Bellambi on 30, Albion Park 28 and Kiama only 22!

Couldn't believe the ferocity of the wind in the Syd area today, but yeah thank god it's over. The synoptic didn't show anything out of the ordinary either, it must've been something subtle and local. Tomorrow looks calmer though with a high right overhead.

Down to around 1 degree again this morning. Lovely & sunny - heading to around 22 degrees today - should be rather pleasant smile

Access & EC thinking about a decent inland rain event in the lead up to, and possibly on race day here in Bathurst (about 5th - 7th). GFS says NO WAY JOSE but the other 2 are a little interested smile Worth a wait n see.
