The end date of this thread is fairly open-ended so it could change by then... but thought I'd get this started anyway. As usual, I'm not going to get excited til around the day or two before.

A deepening surface trough and positively tilted upper trough combined with a moist onshore flow should cause enhanced rainfall to develop around the southeastern quarter of QLD and northeast NSW by early to mid next week. Some models also suggest a very small low may eventually develop near the southern QLD coast but that's still up in the air.

I'll leave all the finer details and discussion up to others for now since I'm in a rush but below are some graphics (the probabilities of greater than 25mm one is technically the percentages of the 62 forecast scenarios from a few of the ensembles dropping more than 25mm of accumulated rainfall during next week):

Thanks for those charts Ken, I'll hold off carting water until next week. WATL has also been consistent last few days, so I leave it at that & not jinx the bloody thing!
Heating up well atm, 35.5C 18%RH & calm.

Well hoping for some rainfall also to avoid purchasing water.

I don't understand why BOM forecasts are so stand offish when other models EC, GFS, OCF are all going for more than just occasional showers. Maybe they too don't want to jinx anything.

Thanks Ken,

Look out northern nsw!

isn't the theme to date that the forcast a 5-7 days out has wide bay/sunny coast copping a drenching but the low ends up forming south of the border and they get 200mm while we get 4mm with the passage of the trough and light south westerlies up here? Haha

Definitely a southward trend in the models - it was Hervey Bay a few days ago...

I'll wash the car and pre-pay for a water delivery, that might help...

Layman post from this duck, but still, ;-)
Seen a hint of this the other day, and just now viewed the typical Synoptic, lets hope for anything, very dry here on the GC, even the biggest of gum trees have wilted !

Good thing the Major Dams are still very healthy, tho, the way things are going, one's mind can wander back a decade or two ago to that 6-7yr drought where occasionally good rain came, but never hit the catchments ? ?

Flat-out received 0.2mm from the stormage last week - the concrete around here is greener than the grass atm, was thinking about mowing the carport, just to turn the mower over, Lol ;-)

Thanks for starting the thread Ken. Goodness knows we need the rain desperately. I've never seen so many water tankers in our neck of the woods. Certainly the cards are falling (if nor the rain yet) for this potential event. Classic trifecta of a deepening surface trough, enhanced by an upper trough, and fed by moist easterlies always plays well for SEQ.

Just some fleeting thoughts....

GFS clearly an outlier, while most models I've seen focus the heaviest falls in the north of SEQ, GFS just drenches the entire coast as the inland low/trough dips a lot further south than the others. Two things:

1. The upper low is much stronger on GFS
2. GFS fails to build the ridge in under trough/low, hence the entire trough/low slips SSE and pops off the NE NSW rather than anchoring further north. Some charts to show my reasoning:

GFS:

-Blue arrows represent the anti-clockwise rotation around the two upper level ridges. Note the position of the 'H' over SA - this is the ridge that doesn't build in as quickly as EC nor the rest.
-Green arrow represents the broad inland trough
-Black arrow represents the gap or 'weakness' between the two ridges or 'H's. Hence the low is able to slip further south, between the two.

2. EC:

-Again the blue lines represent the ridge. As you can see, the main center of the western ridge is over Victoria, whereas GFS was still over SA. The two (Vic & Tasman Sea 'H') look to have pretty well merged here
-Green arrow represents the deep inland trough or broad low - but it's anchored further north because there's no weakness in the ridge as seen in the GFS example.

Final thoughts: GFS solution would give everybody from southern CQ right through to NE NSW a solid drink as the trough slips SSE and a new low pops off the coast mid-week. EC solution would likely hold the heaviest rainfall in SEQ or even further north, ACCESS-G just out actually has the heaviest falls remaining north of Brisbane but it's probably being a little conservative for SEQ on the precip side of things considering we'll be under the influence of a very moist E/NE air flow.

Isn't it good to finally have some weather to talk about...

Great analysis Mega smile

There's still some uncertainty about the positioning, movement and amplitude of the upper troughs as well as the evolution of the surface features... and therefore, uncertainty about the positioning of the heavier rainfall.

A number of models currently have the heavier rainfall to our north and west, while a smaller proportion spread the heavier stuff over us.

As Blowin' mentioned, I always prefer to be a bit "too" far south than too far north when it comes to most systems but I just hope this system doesn't stay TOO far north.

If we happen to get into the sweet spot of max upmotion around 1/3rd to 1/2 of the wavelength downstream of the upper troughs, it'll be good.

Here's some graphics below (that unusually wide spread of rainfall scenarios is mainly due to the uncertainty with the positioning of the upper troughs and surface features):

Thanks for starting the thread.

Where is everyone smile smile smile. I thought after months of talking about dry ground , burn grass , no feed , empty tanks this thread would be blooming with spring exitment smile smile smile
Great to see a nice set up that a large area will get some of the wet stuff. As others have said , this is the tide turning hopefully smile

I was ment to be taking nice and nephews on there first camping trip tomorrow for the week up to girraween NP.
Now flipping a coin where to go and excape into some more camping friendly area. Might head south and go to mt kaputar NP , hopefully will be at the egde of the main rain if the system slides SSE.
Kids love fossicing and bush walking so we have the best of both worlds down there.

Hope everone get a drink out of this one.

Cheers

Totally agree, must just be you Inclement, unlike CirrusFibratus with a 502 I am getting a very clear and nice bigger number of 522 error, it also has pictures telling me I may have done something wrong. evillaugh

No it is down IW. Probably the solar storm from last week has caught up with us. X9.3 and X8.2 are pretty big solar flares.

Here is an extract of the forecast application I use (excellent little program called WXSim), which uses GFS data. It has been quite consistent for the last four days.

NB: This is for my location in Ocean View, so temperatures have been adjusted for my elevation.

Told you the rain would come in October, but i was going for mid October. But have to say very unusual setup for October and fairly rare to to see a low develop (if it does ) off Fraser island this time of year.

Even with the amounts forecast it will make little difference. It will take 100mm just to get some runoff given how dry everything is.

The latest Access-R has shifted the heavier rain a little north towards the WBB again. However, as you can see from the radar, this is a real time event now so we can make own observations.

There were heavy showers on the Coffs Coast this morning. At BOM's gauges, 98mm fell at Sawtell, Coffs Airport 60.8mm (but for whatever reason it isn't showing it on the rainfall page but the figure is legitimate and fits in with other obs reported from the area), 42mm Bray St and 30mm Gundagai St.
Posted by Graham in the Sept Rain/Temp summary thread in General Weather at 8am this morning (Location is Boambee East, a few kms SW of Coffs Airport AWS):

NSW BoM going for 45-70mm range tomorrow, and 60 to 90mm for Tuesday for tweed heads. But my question for anyone is why? I thought most models were predicting the low to be well north on the sunshine coast. Cheers.

Looking at the radar at the moment it looks much better down south. Kyogle looks to be getting a good drop. We've had light showers for a couple of hours at Jimbour. The ground is not really wet yet. Going to need a LOT more if we're to come close to predicted totals. Smells lovely at least.

Really nice cool gloomy wet conditions here with a steady light to sometimes moderate rain.

Latest ACCESS-R going for 3-day accumulations of 100-200mm in a narrow swath near northern parts of our region (WBB, southeastern Central Highlands & Coalfields, northern Sunshine Coast)... grading to 50-100mm along some exposed parts of the coastal fringe & islands, NT's and northern Downs... and below 50mm in other areas.

Could be a bit of thunder for some areas as well.

Here's a few updated graphics:

In all fairness, wind back the rainfall radar 6 hours and set to fastest.

I see BOM have knocked almost 100mm off today's totals. frown
We managed to scrape in 1mm last night and the radar isn't looking too promising for us at the moment.

Watching to see how the day pans out with low expectations for around here. I hope some areas do end up with some decent totals, those up in the WBB have been so dry for so long.

Hi, Michael in Warwick.
What do you think is going to happen today? So far this event has been going in absolute classic style for your area. A very hard lesson I had to learn when I lived in Warwick way back 1987-91. Every cloud band and blob of rain will do anything to avoid the area. It has even like this in Toowoomba overnight, amazing. But we may be surprised and something better should be down the road.
cheers

There is nothing on the radar to suggest any rain of any substance coming anywhere near the south east .. it's all a massive load of B.S.

Utter rubbish forecasting

Do we really have to go through this every single time there's a weather event that people want to talk about? Given the system is still to our west and north and that it was NOT expected to have peaked already, why do people always do this? If you don't have anything useful to contribute, why do you even bother posting here?

Hello Hopefull, well, not much has changed around here in over 25 years since you lived out this way. Were you in the town area? Or outside of town? That could make a huge difference in convective storm coverage.
Today we might see more of a steady, light to moderate rain area coming over later today or tonight, but overall, a big disappointment, especially for the farmers. I would be highly surprised to see over 15-20mm out this way.
But yes, everything seems to go around us out here. Ask anyone out here, and they will agree. Last 2 years have been a bit better, but overall, areas like Allora and Killarney seem to score a lot more than we do.
I live in west Warwick, and seem to do much better than they do in the middle of town. Must be topography? Will be interesting to see what this year brings.
Cheers,
Michael

Here here.

53.6mm of beautiful liquid in the gauge so far at home after months of dry weather. Looking forward to see the place start to green up again

Gympie has been underdone pretty much since it went over to the doppler for some reason. I use Gladstone up here in Wide Bay as it gives a much better indication of intensity.

Not much rain here in HPW over the past 24hrs. Enough to wet the ground. Nice to see something though.

I have been checking the ECMWF model on windy.com and it predicts about 20-40mm over the Brisbane area in the next three days. If a low pressure system is to form up near Fraser, we could potentially get a lot more rain depending on its movements.

(Original sized image: https://i.imgur.com/TFPiXzv.png)

I don't think this event is over by a long shot as yet.

Edit Reason: Original image was bit big for the forum (1642 pixels longest border). But it's a helpful screenshot, so I've reuploaded it myself at a smaller size to be nearer to the forum's longest border maximum (though slightly flexible) limit of 1024 pixels :-)

Well Ken and Colfront when it comes to the Warwick area you have to have lived there for a few years to understand the doubt and frustration. The coast and Brisbane will do great but with parts of the Downs you just never know.
Cheers
Oh, sorry Michael I lived in the East side of Warwick and Pete I live I suppose, just SE of the Centre of town.

Hopefull: I never said anything about the Warwick area, nor that people weren't frustrated. But considering the effort and time some people take to contribute towards discussion in here only to find that the place just turns into a whingefest so often, *that* in itself is frustrating.

No-one's saying forecasts should be praised all the time and critical discussion shouldn't occur but there comes a point when the inevitable "I didn't get 500mm of rain in my backyard" even when the event isn't even over yet, gets very tiring. It's called Weatherzone for a reason, not Whingezone.

Some interesting action coming onshore up near Bundy, can imagine why waterspouts are possible.
Interesting how you can see the train coming in from the Ne but the ovaching system aka Yeppoon is coming from the Nw.

Finally! we are getting nice rain here at the moment! Slowing down as I type this .... Hoping the big falls eventuate for the sake of our gardens and animals and to fill up all the tanks ... We have bore water too, but I prefer the rain water for my gardens ... smile So far since this even started (no counting this last downpour) the rain gauge has shown us only a few drops ... we get more from dew ... smile

Comparing the 256 radars Gladstone and Gympie, seems a lot different Gladstone has yellow and redish areas, Gympie just looks like some rain possible. do we just need to get used to that look or will they fine tune it ?

Good question. It seems to have been that way for quite a long while now Justme. They had a similar issue when the Cairns doppler went live but rectified it within a week.

Up to 88mm now at home. Rain rates up over 200mm per hour more than once today.

A pleasant cool day at 17.3C and 98% humidity, wind N @ 15km/h, overcast with a just few teeny sprinkles. My hubby went out for a kayak and came back early as he was too cold! Just shows you how much the weather can vary over a few days. Hoping we get a good drenching. My pot plants are plonked out the front eagerly awaiting a drink:)

Getting some heavier stuff now, but you wouldn't know it looking at the Gympie radar. Complete garbage, they had 6 months of dry to get it fixed.

Yeah frustrating stuff. Gladstone radar giving 'better' returns for Wide Bay than Gympie!!

I'm not an expert with weather radar by any means but i would have thought calibration / fine tuning would need something like this rain event to be able to occur and 6 months of dry would have meant it couldn't happen?

Has been raining lightly here on and off all morning, up to about 8mm I think. If we can get some heavier falls later tonight it would be fantastic as the light stuff has primed the soil for maximum soak-in potential

Wow Bundaberg 107mm, Gympie radar would indicate they've had a quarter of that, if that.

Huge falls there Mega and CF, this event could rival ex Debbie in that area. Rain has just started to pick up here too, the heaviest its been all day. Even some half decent storms along the back end of the trough as doug mentioned. With plenty more to come judging by radar and satpic, this could turn out as quite an interesting event.

I was at 155 at about 11am and have had more since then, more to come. Had the dog doing an echidna impersonation under MY bed because she is so stupid.

The daughter who had been camped locally lobbed up at 4am with 3 others to camp on my lounge room floor to escape the deluge.

Son looks like he will be spending the night in town.

I love rain.

I only recorded around 65mm in the ex-Debbie event LG , however we received perhaps upwards of 3 times that. The wind was coming in sideways so the gauge simply didn't catch it. We had considerable flooding at the time.

Approaching 150mm here now. One report from Avondale to my nth west of 300mm+.

There's been exactly 9mm fall here since 9am this morning from an extended period of light to occasionally steady rain. That's more rain than we had during August (2.2mm) and September (2.6mm) combined. There was no recordable rain in the 24hrs to 9am.

I drove through that when it was north of Bundy around 45 minutes ago. Some of the heaviest rain I have ever witnessed.

It may be my eyes but it does appear there is a rotation trying to form north west of here on the 256-512k loops?

A damaging tornado/waterspout went through a suburb of Bundaberg just before which isn't too surprising given the low level shear/turning, instability and low LCL's.

I am not surprised. Looks like another one possibly coming in north of Hervey Bay. Gympie radar doesn't do it justice and it's right on the edge of Gladstone 256km.

I think some people forget that this event was never going to deliver big falls to SEQ. GFS was the outlier in forecasting big totals for us and even then it switched the focus to WBB/SC a couple of days ago.

That being said there's some decent rain coming through SEQ over the next few hours. GFS is also going out on a limb again and setting up a deep NE'ly feed over SEQ tomorrow bringing good falls. With reasonable instability and turning winds in the atmosphere we could see some nice cells or even waterspouts coming onshore. EC and Access-R don't want a bar of it but definitely not done for SEQ yet.

An awesome day here. Although at this stage we have only received 2mm and it is continuing to rain, whoopy! It has been cool with a max of 21°C, it has drizzled and it has been overcast in between the rain. A winters day to me. Plus a tornado/waterspout up at Bunderberg, just hope no one has lost too much or any injuries. There has been damage and will post the news paper report for the archive in the next post.

Some places have had awesome totals at 17:06,
Bunderberg Al 219mm.

Cherwell/Burrum Stations

Cordalba AL * 142mm
Gregory River(Burrum Hwy TM) *113mm

Queensland weather: Flash-flood warnings as widespread rains expected to hit Queensland
Clare Armstrong, Jack McKay & Madura McCormack, The Courier-Mail
20 minutes ago

UPDATE: 5pm: EMERGENCY crews have received more than 90 calls for help from residents in the Bundaberg region after a severe storm and heavy rainfall caused flooding and damage this afternoon.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) spokesman said SES crews have responded to numerous incidents including roof damage and minor house flooding.

Meanwhile QFES crews have responded to reports of fallen powerlines with reports more than 5000 homes are currently without power.

Motorists have been advised to drive with caution to the conditions after reports several roads have been cut off due to flooding.

“Never drive, walk or ride through flood waters and keep clear of creeks and storm drains.

“For flood assistance contact the SES on 132 500. For life-threatening emergencies, call Triple Zero,” the QFES spokesman said.

UPDATE 4.20pm: Bundaberg has received 200mm of rain in six hours and the bulk is yet to come. (See 9News Wide Bay Video)

A spokes woman from the Bureau of Meteorology said there is “a fair bit of rain still heading towards Bundaberg”.

“Looking at the radar, the bulk of the rain will be this evening,” she said.

BoM’s latest update has Bundaberg still in the severe weather warning with possible thunderstorms throughout the day.

The region’s drenching comes as an upper trough is combines with an inland surface trough producing heaving rain in the Wide Bay and Capricornia.

Cordalba has received 146mm in six hours and Moorland has recorded 141mm.

Tornado-like winds have ripped the roofs off of homes and blown them into power lines, leaving about 4000 Ergon Energy customers on the southside of Bundaberg without power Bundaberg News-Mail reports.

Spokesman Rod Rehbein said the freak incident, which reports suggest may have been a waterspout, also propelled trampolines into the power lines, primarily in the area between Walkervale State School and Boreham Park.

Ergon has received more than a dozen reports of fallen power lines in the area.

Crews are responding despite the ongoing downpour, which has caused localised flooding.

Additional crews will depart from the Gladstone area tomorrow at first light to assist local crews in fixing the damage in the Avenell Heights area.

The spokeswoman for BoM said tomorrow there will be more intermittent rain and isolated thunderstorms during the day and clearing in the evening.

EMERGENCY services are working to fix downed powerlines and damaged roofs after severe weather hit the Bundaberg area this afternoon. (See Video Credit: 9News Wide Bay)

Over 170mm of rain has fallen in the town since 9am, including about 75mm in a single hour this afternoon.

QFES crews are attending several incidents in Avenell Heights after strong winds and heavy rainfall destroyed powerlines and some roofs.

A trampoline was sent flying by the powerful winds, the Bundaberg News-Mail reported.

Flights had been turned away from the town.

Queensland police have warned people in Bundaberg to avoid all unnecessary travel after heavy rainfall caused flooding in low lying area and left large amounts of surface water on all roads.

Emergency services are currently working to secure power lines after reports lines have fallen in several suburbs.

Further north police, have confirmed the main roads into Agnes Water, including Rosedale Rd, were closed due to localised flooding.

Rescue crews are currently assisting motorists who have been stranded by the rising waters.

More than 1200 homes and businesses are without power in the Gympie region due to downed power lines.

Another 170 properties in the Somerset and Sunshine Coast regions are also in the midst of power outages.

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for the Wide Bay area including Hervey Bay, with damaging winds and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding in the next few hours.

A separate warning is current for heavy rainfall in areas south of about Emerald to Gladstone and north of about Taroom to Noosa Heads.

Got home around midday from a weekend away camping out Aratula way (Mt Edwards), to find we had 7.9mm in the gauge at Salisbury....in comparison the rain we had yesterday arvo / last night at our camp was barely enough to settle the dust, under my 4wd the grass was dry still this morning....what light rain we had sounded nice on the canvas roof of the camper trailer, but not much fell out that way overnight. Currently sitting at 13.4mm at Salisbury now, so 5.3mm falling here since after lunch time today.

EC modeled this incredibly well, 4 days ago it had heavy falls beginning up around Gladstone then moving down the coast before gradually moving offshore. ACCESS-R was good too but had the bulk of tonight's rainfall falling a little inland of the Fraser Coast instead of moving offshore @ Hervey Bay. If that had happened then the whole strip between Bundy & Rainbow would be underwater. GFS was just terrible all around, there is no other way of putting it.

90 mm in just 2 hours. That is getting nasty in Bunderberg. Stay safe everyone within the warning areas. A very serious event unfolding. I am glad they are using SEWS as Ken posted. As mega said EC did well in picking it.

My 2 kids have sensibly holed up in bundy for the night at a mates place. One needs to be north for work, the other east.

Son (19 yo) has my lifted cruiser in town and wont think he should try his luck. Meanwhile idiot adults are trying the roads with their piddly road cars. Personally, I hope they wash off the road where the water is deep enough to wash the car off but still allow them to exit it and get wet to their bums.

And to annoy me further, because I hate stupidity, idiot self proclaimed important people locally are encouraging people to risk their and rescuers lives to get home.

Looks to me like the falls are coming to an end for Bundaberg. Seems to be ramping up on the SC, can anyone confirm heavy falls?

I hope they are safe Bundybear. They sound like sensible Adults. Watching on the news some cars hitting the water going pretty quick, I wonder if they realise the damage it does to your car, ute or 4WD.

A big question is, after watching the radar for a few sweeps over the last hour, if they should extend that warning to the SEQ metropolitan area?

Just passed 20mm for today (so far). Light showers with the odd heavy burst. This is a wonderful welcome releif from Several Fire Dangers of last week!

IW and wet dreams - what's your forcast?
Some nice looking rain coming down from the north.
Is Gympie undercooking or stapylton over cooking? I hope the former.

I reckon you're on the money there. We're up to 37mm so far.
Been great constant rain for hours now, the gardens will be loving this and I loving seeing the tanks finally getting filled. smile

Been interesting watching the radar, the pretty consistent rain falling here all arvo didn't really match the patchy/moderate falls that looked to be passing over us on the radar.

Down here GC so far 14mm from mainly drizzle, I have put a small sheet of iron roofing on some exposed concrete with a couple o bricks on it, so I can hear the rain better - loving it :-)
And looking at what's coming overnight, which wont be as drenching as has been in places so far,, tho, hopefully another 10-20 'ere, - would get down in the ground for the gumtrees and last a while into summer ?

Raining heavily here again. Up to 57mm since 8am this am. That compares to 57mm in the previous 4 months! June 31mm, July 16mm, Aug 5mm (I think that fell in July but I was away) and Sept 5mm.
Tanks full now.

40mm in total for the event here, best part is it is slow soaking rain, best thing for gardens and such.

Still have a drizzle here at the moment but the radar seems to be clearing north of us now. Will be interesting to see how things go tomorrow.

According to BoM 88mm recorded yesterday for Buderim.

I was just even happy with 2mm due to the overcast cool day earlier, overall we ended up with 44mm in total.

Which data are you referring to explorer? The previous day (1st/2nd Oct) or yesterday/Today (9:00am -9:00am). I couldn't find an AWS for Coolum Chase. I did noticed that during the last round of storms before this event, some of the AWS were not registering, don't know if there was a glitch in receiving data.

No hassles explorer, I have the same thing happen to me with the Brisbane Metro. It used to always register when you used it all the time but now you have reset it.

Plus my mate at Moorina had well over a 100mm from the last storm. He posted a video on Instagram showing all the tanks overflowing and the run off etc, he phoned me because they lost power, and when I checked the amount of rain registered at the AL it only showed 12mm and stayed that way for about 3 hours. He was right under the Black Core and the rain rate on the radar was well over 50mm/hour at one stage. Being on a hill the topography caused the cell to stay put for 2 1/2 hours. The next day the AWS still only showed 64mm, it was wrong as he is about 100 meters from it and it copped the same amount. We constantly calibrate his with the AWS, so this time around something went wrong.

Looks like the models were accurate with this event, although Brisbane was originally forecasted to have rain periods today when you look at the forecast 2-3 days back. Now its Showers and a chance of a storm.
Speaking of, will these storms form out in the Darling downs area if the cloud breaks up out west? Or are these storms forecast to form along and off the coast?

event total of 39.3mm here so far. Under very low cloud atm, and BoM have possible thunderstorms and possible heavy falls in forecast for us too MadElf. BSCH Sounding looks alright with instability but unless this low cloud disappears I can't see anything more than drizzle happening around the place?

An amazing 135mm in the Nylex here at Pialba, for this event. The lightning moved out to Fraser Island during the night and rain stopped at about 7pm.
Plenty of warnings from BOM, Bundaderg sure copped it.

Rain at times bringing 22.8mm in the 24hrs to 9am. That's more rain than we received during the entire July-September period here (16.0mm). The gardens and lawns will be a bit happier.
4.4mm since 9am from some further morning rain. There have been a couple of thunderstorms about the local region this afternoon, but they have pretty much only been about the western half of the northern MNC so far. I heard a bit of distant thunder about five minutes or so ago.

Absolutely smashing it down here!! Small, slow moving cell parked itself right on top of us. A few flashes and rumbles thrown in for good measure. Awesome! grin

35mm in the gauge from this evenings storm. Best overall rain since Debbie and biggest storm fall since Jan 2016. Event total now 64mm, was the perfect way to end a dry spell, a day of nice, moderate rain to soak into the soil followed by a torrential downpour to completely saturate everything. Might even have to dust off the mover in a week or so grin grin

The place already has a touch of green, another 2.5mm shower & Stapy shows more coming. Definitely turn of seasons that damn heat brought on.

18.5mm total for the event out here. Looks like we were on the very edge. Areas west of here did not do so well. Maybe next time the focus of the rain will be on the Southern Downs? Still, only the second day of Oct., so this is a good start.

Not a fan of days with no capping like tomorrow and Thursday. Will probably just end up with a thundery-showery mess like today.

Storm activity over inland parts of the Nambucca Valley this afternoon helped to bring 31mm at both Bowraville and Bowra Sugarloaf.
A band of rain moved through here during the late afternoon / early evening, which then cleared away about 30-40 minutes before sunset. 10.2mm since 9am. A nice rainbow appeared as the rain was clearing off this evening -

Sorry to hear that your cat has passed away, RWM.

I'm traveling interstate at the moment, but the wife just sent a text to say there was another 70mm in the gauge today. That would pretty much fill the tanks I reckon.
Would be interested to hear what our DV neighbors have recorded.

And I've been trying to get this image to work off my phone today, hopefully it works this time.
This is the remnants of Monday Night's rain offshore around the GC/NNSW area at about 6:30am this morning.

Sorry to hear about your cat RWM, they become part of the family. I have to say I hate snakes.

Nice photos Seabreeze and wetdreams.

Just playing each day as it comes and waiting for the sounding for Fridays possible storm.

Mate sorry to hear that, what type of snake was it? I thought most animals were immune to snake bites? Or is that spider bites im thinking of?

Thanks for the thoughts everyone.

Don't know type of snake. Cat slept in the garden a lot, so my guess is a travelling snake got him. Bitten on back leg. I did not find him for a day and by then it was too late.

Cheers guys. I thought it was a nice way to finish a welcomed rain event.
Pretty much a sunny day here today (as was expected). 33.0mm in total here for event, and close to what was generally forecast. Also much appreciated after the extremely dry July-September period. Hopefully Mother Nature keeps on bringing some rain every now and then.

My Nylex has recorded 71mm in Toowoomba over the past 4 days, which has been most welcome. Interesting that the Airport, only 6kms away (straight line) recorded only 40mm over the same period. The maximum visibility on Monday where I live was never more than about 400m, and most of the time was about 'at arm's length'. I suppose that some of the Foggy Condensation would have contributed to the total in the gauge, as everything was dripping throughout the day, even though it wasn't actually raining.

I'm most certainly not complaining, 71mm has brought our tanks to 85%.
