Sadly, seeing itís after 9am, the Illawarra has just recorded our driest September on record with not one drop of rain frown

Albion Park, Kiama and Bellambi all new min records. And the blasted westerlies are back.

Hint to BOM - perhaps a strong warning needed for Illawarra? 80kph at Albion Park.

On the ground? yep, its blowing its ring out again.

Agree MT, it's ridiculous.

OH finished the month with 0.2mm, which fell out of a sunny sky early on the 14th after a cloud band had cleared, so that might be a phantom. In any case, it was the second driest calendar month there in over 150 years.

Albion Park had a completely rainless September. The month to date rainfall map shows a coastal strip from about Broken Bay to Jervis Bay which finished September with under 1mm rainfall.

The models are showing signs of the dry pattern breaking down. The rain now over Central Australia will pass to the North, that due in about a week's time will be further South, but change can't be far away.

Another precedent: the warm, dry Olympic month of September 2000 was followed by average rain in October and a wet November, with the Summer that followed fairly average for rain.

There was also a 111 km/h gust at 10.18 am at Gabo Island.

I can vouch for that 0.2mm as I recorded the same and it was followed by a rise in humidity from 40% to 65% in space of 5 mins.

Thank you CS22. So it does look like it was real rain.

-----

Warm with filtered sunlight here and a bit breezy.

Looks like the heat is finished for us for now, with warm but not hot temps forecast for the next week.

Snow depths are on the way down but still holding well - 219.5cm at Spencer's Creek.

Over 2 metre base at the end of September is pretty impressive Steve.
No doubt it would be fairly gluggy. Quality isn't always great this time of year with the warmer temps.
In saying that, I believe they had a little top up overnight and it's rather cold there today so conditions are probably pretty good.

Tibooburra is currently just 15 deg's. A far cry from last Saturdays temps.

The drive to Nelson Bay from the main highway is crap and boring too so I agree that the north side is more convenient.

And Eddy, happy birthday to you. Glad you are spending it in a pristine location. Last time I went there we stayed at Trial Bay which is across the other side of the beach. If you're not staying there, I would highly recommend you head there to the Trial Bay gaol, very nice views north and interesting surroundings. I'm sure Seabreeze could vouch.

A cold front is moving up the South Coast. It arrived at Montague Island around 12:15, dropping temps from 21 to 15 and Moruya Airport about an hour later (24 to 18). Seems to be little or no associated rain.

EDIT: Neilson Bay is beautiful and worth the drive up. It's easy to get to from Newcastle, being about an hour's drive North. The countryside of the way up is flat and uninteresting. Stockton Beach is nearby but it and the Ocean are hidden behind a rise. The view from Gan Gan lookout (turnoff on the edge of town) is spectacular.

Yes Steve. That southerly pushing north. Gabo Island still having gusts above 90 km/h and has an app temp of -0.9 degrees. It would be bitter there atm.

10.6mm of rain for the month here, one brief overnight downpour on the 14th Sept, and another 0.2 mm on 28th Sept.
Average max so far 25.4C, 26C today won't change it much, but will be a degree short of 2013 at the old Maitland station. (26.6C average max).
Tocal, which does have long term records, was just short on individual and monthly records for Sept.
Strange month, that is for sure.
The 0.2mm of rain in Sydney is an incredible record, just failed to equal August 1995 for the only other month of zero rain. (I remember August 1995 well, was living in Camden back then)

That southerly probably explains this in Tasmania this morning.

Speaking of beers, had a couple at the Seabreeze pub!! Very nice.

Very calm overcast conditions up here compared to back home, a little on the cool side too, probably about the 22c mark.

Temp has dropped an impressive 6c in 10mins and the DPís jumped a more impressive 12c in 10 mins! Weak chance of an isolated coastal shower too overnight.

The change is just reaching Sydney Airport. It'll be here soon.

That 6 degree drop seems to be pretty consistent along the coast after it passes through.
