It began raining here at 2 am/3 am last night and hasn't stopped. 69 millimetres so far. The BoM had predicted a 20% chance of 0 to 6 millimetres. This ended a dry spell of 77 days, 6 hours and 10 minutes.

In September, like August, we received no rain. (And we only got 7 millimetres in July.) We've never before had two successive months without rain.

We set several other records for September, including highest maximum and minimum temperatures. Details here.

Wynnum North September data. Up till 22nd Sept the average temp for the month was still below average thanks to the dry air and clear nights, but it all changed in the last week....

What's there to say?

No recorded at all here in September. But there were a few occasions where there were rain drops.

91.5 mm for September 2017 -- 12 am to 12 am. I guess it's not really helpful without a longer-term mean, so it is below average by about 1-2 mm...which in the bigger scheme of things, is close enough to average smile .

There is some real action in the monthly weather at Manilla NSW.
A severe shortage of rainfall has very seldom (and only briefly) occurred here since the extreme 6-month drought of 2002, fifteen years ago.
Severe shortages have now developed as shown in this graph.

Persistent extremely low dew points, cloudless skies, and very wide daily temperature ranges suggest to me that the situation may not improve for some time.
The failure of the Bureau's automatic rain gauge here could be costly for our farmers. Drought relief depends on records of official rain gauges.
With the Bureau being starved of funds, the gauge could be out for months, as has happened twice in the last two years.
My reports and graphs are here:
