hmm looks quite different....just a bad dry spell between very wet periods. Its been generally pretty average or below around here since April 2015. I guess nothing ever looks exactly the same.....so many variables at play. It feels like we should break into floods, but nothings a guarantee.

Chance of a thunderstorm in the latest forecast. Things may definitely be turning, but the wheels are grinding slowly.

Have noticed a fair bit of scud with these onshore winds, not much of it last summer though plenty of it now. Ocean must be warm

No more cold nights, time to start celebrating cheers

Inshore is below average but out on the East Australian Current it's well above-average; where these easterlies/ne'erlies are coming from.

Manly Hydraulics aren't providing inshore SSTs at the moment. Wonder if it is worth heading down to Manly Dam and knocking on their door to ask for it to be fixed!

I see the Sydney radar is back up now. Not sure what improvements I am supposed to be noticing. I guess the rain can return to Sydney now but I for one am loving this dry, sunny spell. Today's coastal scum hors d’oeuvres here was a reminder of how good the weather in this dry spell is and how much I hate cloudy weather.

My rain tank is empty and we're back to full mains usage but the weeds are doing just fine so it can't be too bad.

Re Sydney's dams, Sydney's water supply is still drawing down the balance left by some very wet weather early in the year.

February had nearly double its average rainfall at OH, March nearly treble. June had about 150% of its average, nearly all in the first half of the month, before the taps were turned off. January, April and May had below average rainfall but even so, at the midpoint of the year, Sydney would have been running well ahead of its average.

I think the March and June rain was mainly coastal, so inland areas are probably a good deal less well off.

I saw that article, there is a lot of overhyped data about climate change.
50C is a very rare temperature in this country although we do get high 40s in hot areas, I think the last time was in the Pilbara in Feb 1998. (cracking 50C is almost always a case of close, but no cigar!)
Sydney itself has had 47.8C at Richmond RAAF - back in 1939!
It got to 47.0C again in February this year in outer western Sydney and 47.2C in the Hunter Valley.
Melbourne area has had 47.9C in Avalon in Feb 2009.
But to say these temps will penetrate the cities is yet to be seen. (there have only been 3 January days in history in Sydney city over 44C, none in other months).
On the current weather, still dry as, and no rain around.
Ironically my car's windscreen wipers broke down and just got them fixed for over $300, and it probably won't rain until Xmas at this rate.

That sure is ironic Derek. Btw I have only driven in heavy rain once or maybe twice since I got my car in early June!

50°C will happen one day I reckon but it will be an extremely rare occurrence like 47-48°C days are now. There won't be "50 degree heatwaves", though.

To get those extra few degrees you'd need the monsoon to really back off I guess, to allow the interior to heat up a lot, then somehow get a winter-like cold front to pop up and drag it all across and down to the SE.

remember the weather is being and can be manipulated, so those tools can be deployed where a result is required. This might simply be that if Australia doesnt tow the line on whatever its puppet masters want, the ionsphere and Jetstreams are manipulated accordingly to punish us. In this case creating a stable upper ridge over northwest Australia and then directing any jetstream moisture aways from the populated SE areas. Result would be severe drought and huge fires. Same methods can be used to create or enhance flood situations. And before everyone flips out like its all a big conspiracy spend some time digging about and you will find there are numerous patents and significant evidence of these manipulations.
Its entirely possible that these type of articles are just softening us up for these types of events because they are going to be made to happen...

Anyway fully over cast here today. very still. Feels much more like March than October. Lets hope it converts to something soon.

I personally think it's highly unlikely nigh impossible. If it's going to happen it would have already in other locations perched on mega deserts across the world - LA would be a likely suspect.

Over it badly, everything around the inner west is dead or dying and the place is a dust bowl. The grass in the parks and council strips are either very patchy or just brown and dead now. Need some good rain fast.
