I'm the opposite. wink I hate SWlies as well and they're my 2nd least favourite wind, seconded only by scumtherlies.

Negative SAM looks likely for the next few weeks so I would not be surprised if that wintry cold change eventuated. Snow does occur in October and even November or December.

hahaha - southerlies aren't my fav either - esp in summer - but lest they're not dry and savage blowing straight across the lake.

Much prefer deep fetch NE / Easterlies tbh.

If that comes off; and a big IF; there could be a snow chase on.

SE or SSE winds are my least fave, esp if accompanied by a Low pressure down south, as they just bring onshore showers.
A pure southerly buster in summer is very welcome.
Southwesterly and WSW winds that are dry can be annoying as well, if coming off the land they bring in the hay fever in late winter/ spring.
Calm and still conditions are my fave, or maybe a light NE'er.
Today is SE, but the initial rain came from the SW.

Westerly winds are probably my favourite in summer and in winter probably north/NWly winds. I pretty much hate anything with south and east in it.

The only good that we get with winds from the S-E quarter is suppression of any Ekman type coastal upwelling. Apart from that, they are the ********** of winds here.
Take today for instance. A beautiful sunny morning has now become miserable and overcast as the winds swung to east of south.

Give me a deep fetch NW any day. Lifts my spirits and puts a spring in my step.
I see some models forecasting some significant heat about 7-10 days from now. Fingers crossed.

When I get a moment, I could give the various wind directions a rating out of 10 and maybe put the ratings on a sort of wind rose.

The ratings would depend upon the season, what the weather's been like lately and whether or not we need rain.

That being said, I'm not keen on the SE sector, especially in Summer. I don't like E-NE in Winter. I like SW'ers, wish we got more in Summer. And I do like the heat, within reason, so the NW quadrant is good.

I also saw that heat in 7-10 days in GFS. Long fetch NW'ers, 850 temps in the range 16-18, so not too warm. Doesn't look like much rain in the next couple of weeks, not the drought-ending deluge I was expecting anyway.

But it's a way out yet, it can all change.

You can argue that there are problems with ECLs which a lot of posters wish for; loss of property and lives due to wind and water.

I'm sure those wishing for an ECL don't hope some fool drives through a flooded causeway just as I hope some sicko doesn't light a fire on a hot day.

Guess that's the same for any wind at a damaging level.

Good chance of some chunky showers along the coastal strip tomorrow arvo as a more unstable southerly pushes in - models have between 1 - 20mm.

It's amazing how much everything has started greening up down here. Very noticeable when I got home this afternoon so it really doesn't take much rain to get things back on track.

Defs looks greener - however have you noticed the patches of dead forest/trees esp along roads and the hill behind Albion Park? Sad to see a swathe of brown across those hills. Desperately need some decent rains - but soaking rain, not all at once.

The change that's supposed to bring showers has just entered the far south coast.
