Heavy rain here. No Thunder.

That black cell heading North near East Hills looks fierce.

Small hail reported from my mate in Bankstown. Saw the snapchats from there too. Just heard a boom from that cell.

EDIT 2: Looking towards that cell to my south about 8 minutes ago. Sorry not sure why tinypic roated the image side on

Long roll of thunder just now.

It's stopped raining for the time being and brightened, but the Sydney radar is really filling up South of the Harbour. Looks like the rain will return soon.

That black cell is persistent, if a bit weaker. It's now passing over Olympic Park. Any big events there?

P.S. Good pic Perfect Storm.

EDIT: Chatswood (nearby) has recorded 4.0mm.

Thanks Steve777. Looks like a couple more showers slowly building to my south.

Hoping for a bit more weather at home before I leave for Byron Bay on Thursday - will be staying somewhere near Port Stephens or Forster (camping for 1 night). Will be in Byron in a cabin = from the 27th October until 5th November. Hoping to see a bit of storm action whilst up there but models are chopping and changing.

Strange sort of a day, peaked at 24C, but that must have been very brief at around 1330-1340. Most of the day hovered in the low 20s, with no rain registered.
Looking mild at 23C for tomorrow, and then a spate of 4 out of 5 30C+ days to come.
No challenge on any October 1988 records though, which has the individual daily and hottest overall month for October for Tocal. (which is referred to for long term records, as there are none for Maitland Airport, which only started in July 2016)

There's a hot spell coming up for our part of the world. The BOM forecast has Richmond reaching or passing 30 on 5 of the next 7 days, hitting 37 next Sunday. The heat is moderated near the coast, but it still looks like a warm week coming up after tomorrow.

The Sydney radar looks interesting again, with heavy showers moving Northwards through the Eastern suburbs and a line of cells near Camden and another near Helensburgh.
EDIT: cell West of Camden just turned black.

Yeah it was a trial thing they started last year. Ive actually found it helpful a couple of times. I guess it's to their benefit.

Radar is looking good for that large cell moving up from the south west. Not much lightning on the tracker though.
I'm looking at a direct hit. smile

Thanks for letting me know.
37C is hot for October, but a fair way off any records for here.
I will actually be in Canberra next weekend for a conference (flying down Friday night), so should hopefully be warm there as well.

Interesting disclaimer on the TH radar page at the moment.....

"Please be advised Terry Hills radar images are unreliable at present. Please use nearby radars for more reliable images."

Thunder and lightning and first few drops of rain at Stanhope Gardens. Pretty weak with all the activity seeming to be to my west. No strikes registering of the lightning tracker app yet.
Anyway storm number one for Spring 2017. Hopefully many more to come.

A couple flashes and some light rain here in Kellyville. This storm does look a but more threatening on the radar than in person.
