Just having a quick glance for next week Sunday/Monday. Monday at this stage, I personally think is the better of the 2 but still a few days out. Wide spread storms to the North in the Wide Bay region and more Coastal for Brisbane with weaker cells to the west on the Range. Here is a forecast sounding for Monday at 13:00. Just have to keep watching and checking how it all pans out.

As mentioned earlier it certainly was an interesting day of weather yesterday watching how quickly things could change , seeing clouds build up initially but collapsing with the cap , then seeing towers build up down south but anvilling out with the strong steering winds watching the fast moving coloured blobs on the radar and then as the trough edged closer some nice threatning lightning storms and hail in places, certainly had everyone talking!

I was fortunate enough to have another storm flight yesterday evening.
Was a little disappointed that the only window seat available on the western side was behind the wing so I missed getting to see the full glory of the monster as we approached it. But was still impressive non the less.

I've marked our flight path on this warning map that was issued right as we started making our right hand turn to head out to sea over Byron Bay.

And the view out of my window right at that time.

There was heaps of lightening right off the wing as we looped around past the cell out off Coolangatta, but it was too dark in the clouds for the phone it capture it.

I did managed a couple grainy shots looking over the Brisbane skyline on our approach to land.

Edit; Resized last image.

Great photos! Reminds me of coming back from my honeymoon in Tassie in 2013, we circled Brisbane for a while before diverting to Sunshine Coast, sat there for ages waiting for someone to turn up to refuel us, then back down to Brisbane. Half the people were from the Sunshine Coast, so quite annoyed they didn't let us off there!

Awesome shots wetdreams. I always love seeing storms like yesterday's from an aerial perspective.

Can't say I was too surprised given the amount of (modest) backing winds with height below around 700hpa that increased in the model runs in the couple or so days prior to Thursday. That and the drier low levels made a squall line less than certain in my mind although still wasn't prepared to rule it out.

Got really good storms here on two separate occasions yesterday.

The 2nd round last night was particularly impressive with spectacular brilliant bolts and crawlers streaking across the clouds and house shaking thunder. Really impressive for such tiny albeit intense cells. I could even see the back end of its structure lit up by the city lights as it was leaving the area.

Then a "3rd" round later in the night if you can count nearby lightning/thunder but not overhead.

Didn't get any hail here though.

Great views of storms here in town, but as usual they went all around us, barely any rain either. Sladevale, just outside (west) of town however copped a hailstorm with hail the size of golf balls, wind damage and torrential rain also. Wife got caught in it on her way to Brisbane, even after I warned her, lol. Sunroof is buggered, no lol for that one.

Nice work there Plumb and Wetdreams.

Light thundery rain here yesterday afternoon (CC lightning) helping to bring 1.0mm in the 24hrs to 9am. The storms were reasonably isolated along coastal areas between about Laurieton and Evans Head (though that was largely expected), so some places completely missed out (e.g. the Grafton and Port Macquarie areas).

A little instability was evident this morning, and allowed for a few showers develop locally. One of which affected here during the late morning with 2.2mm falling.

Re: EddyG, The 'IS' lens helped a bit, Eddy, tho on closer inspection on full file, the Lightning is actually 'doubled-up' due to movement, Lol, but the scene was grouse, didnt have time to chase down the tripod ?

Appreciate the threads here, info, Analysis etc, everyone's input all adds up & is always a great way to enjoy such weather events on a fuller level.

Drove down to Elbow Valley the other day after the big storms. We were near the NSW border about 20 min from Killarney. Wow, large branches down and trees stripped due to the large hail. Everything smelled of gum tree. They have had 200mm of rain there in the last 2 weeks.

That was me mowing my lawn. Everything has dried out and even dead patches showing up. 9 years out here so far and this is the longest stretch of dry weather I can remember. Maybe even worse than 2009.
I don't see any relief in sight for at least another week....

Hang in there WE2S, we were in the same boat this time last year until Debbie crossed in March. It was the driest I'd ever seen it around these parts through my 30 years living here. I hope you get some rain soon, and if it's any consolation, just remember we still have 4 months of the rainy season to go (not including March which can be a bit hit & miss), so anything can happen in that time.

Thanks guys! It has to break sooner or later. At least most areas are doing well, so that is good news.

Nice photos everyone, I still have to set up some sort of photo hosting site that I can use easily from my phone. I must be getting old as I can't get my head around getting pics up on here.

Anyway here is a little bit of footage of my view of the action , taken from Barney View,
Up on the high ground out from Rathdowney,
Cheers Joe.
