Still very warm and really windy out here. We're right on the edge of the warning box, so hopefully we'll see something a bit later on. Still looks moisture starved here at the moment though. We'll probably get anything here from the blob that is well to our West and slowly progressing East.

And I postoned a trip to Newcastle today to attend to other commitments. That was a pretty intense-looking storm I missed. Although given that my car would have been parked out of doors, maybe it's just as well if there was hail.

Looks to be another storm following it and a huge cell further North on the Myall Coast.

Maybe those cells in the Blue Mountains might move over Sydney.

Just had a 100% credible first hand report, of the thunder from that approx 2am storm cell last night, completely shattering someone’s bathroom shower door, as the storm passed over Kingsgrove and Bexley North.

The loudest of the thunder claps freaked out the cat trying to sleep on my bed.

There's another black core cell about to hit Newcastle. My sister in Mayfield told me she had some hail and sent a short video. Not the big stuff that some places got, but she tells me the dogs were demanding that she make it stop.

Maybe the Sydney radar isn't over reading after all....?

Same thing in Brisbane RE black cores. I'd say the upgraded radars are better at picking up hail hence the stronger signatures. I believe the new radars send out both vertical and horizontal beams now, previously it was only horizontal. Might be wrong on that tho.

Is that black squall line heading south from the Hunter Valley going to make it to the Sydney Basin?

Canberra radar looks fascinating atm.
Some heavy-ish showers/storms pushing up from the south north of Narooma colliding with the incoming storms/rainband coming in from the west.

That was an awesome looking storm that went from the Hunter through (close to) Forster. Looked like it had great circulation...my hunch is that that storm marks the centre of the developing low, will likely see it develop further as it heads out into the ocean. Great to watch (and loving the look of that southeast moving cell heading towards Gosford - that would be a sight to see...good hook on it too.) Don't often see southeast moving storms coming down from the Hunter. Will be interesting to watch where it ends up.

The detailed warning tags the storm near Maitland as 'This storm is very dangerous'.

EDIT: the warning also notes:

"4cm hail observed at Coopernock at about 2:30pm.
5cm hail observed at Gresford at about 4pm.
3cm hail at Tighes Hill (Newcastle) at about 5:30pm."

Did anyone else notice the hook echo on the Wyong cell about 10 mins ago?

We've got a solid line of storms to our West now. Looks like it could get interesting in an hour or so.

Hopefully it stays as storms. Not turn into thundery mess once it hits the basin.

Looks like the Sydney storm shield is active again, the basin the hole in the doughnut currently and the closest storm down stream is near Orange....unless something develops rapidly off the mountains of course, perhaps later, but not hopeful.

That has been my fear as the afternoon has progressed, after seeing the lack of development on the mountains and in the basin.
I've just got fingers crossed at this stage.
