Judging by the building standards of some of those old buildings, there isn't much bracing at all to hold the roof battens down to the trusses, as the battens went with the metal sheet roofing.

Did you get anything at Singo?

Btw we might get some light showers swinging around the low in the next few hours.

Looking at the radar there seems to be rain moving up the coast, can anyone explain why.

It is because the low is now a fair way off the south coast which is sending southerly winds and showers up the coast. Whereas earlier today the low inland to our west so we were on the side with northerly winds and storms.

Here's a report on the Kurri storm in the Newcastle Herald: Kurri Storm

There are more reports and lots of pictures in the Daily Telegraph: Telegraph Reports

It looks like it was pretty wild. The Telegraph report implies more storms are expected in Sydney later today / tonight, but that is not what the BOM says.

Thanks for those links Steve. Highly doubt there will be storms tonight, in fact I'd almost say zero chance.

Cold southerly has arrived and it's rather strong too with dark clouds blowing in.

Thanks for the links Steve. Yes, looks like it was wild, as just confirmed on 7 News.
As for the Telecrap..........just more sensationalist reporting from a low brow media outlet.

A Southerly / scudtherly change passed through the Airport around 6:15PM, dropping the temperature by nearly 5 degrees in the next 35 minutes. It's cool, overcast and windy outside.

This front probably marks the end of this event. The might be light showers in the Southerly airstream.

Now we can 'look forward' to 7 days of S-SE'ers as a strong high crawls from the Bight to the Southern Tasman.

EDIT: the NZ Met chart for 7:00PM shows the low off the South Coast, with a cold front crossing the coast near Sydney and extending across central NSW. There's a warm front in extending from the low into the Tasman: NZ Met

The Saddleback Mtn/Knights Hill shield is in full force right now.

The next 7 days are looking pretty rubbish indeed Steve, but not too wet which is good. Should actually be lengthy periods of sunshine according to the forecast

Well the event total here was 23.2mm so actually pretty close to what I forecasted which was 10-20mm. About 30mm at Bellambi. Even on the south coast, rainfall totals weren't that extraordinary with 72.2mm at Ulladulla. Certainly no 100-150mm like the BoM warning suggested and no "storm force" winds either. Pretty disappointing ECL with all rain now gone under a SWly airstream, but the storm side of it was great. But in a classic ECL aspect it was definitely lacking.

Well today wasn't too bad for me. Made the decision to chase the lake macquarie region as i was not bothered enough to drive to the hunter region. Anyways ended up driving through 3 different cells while travelling along the M1 motorway near Gosford/Wyong at around 1-2PM. One had pea sized hail and another had small hail about 1.5cm in diameter. Both occasions the wind and rain caused complete whiteouts which slowed traffic to around 50-70km/hr with the occasional lunatic doing the speed limit.

By the time i reached the area all the storms had moved offshore or moved on towards the hunter region.

About 5 - 7mm here for the event. Bit sad for us.

Glad other places have done well, trouble is many of us need soaking rain.

Still, any rain is a bonus at the moment smile

Certainly nothing out here rain wise over the next week or more.

Plenty of sunshine and coolish nights coming up.

Pretty fresh 2.5 here this morning but the house is not chilled so we didn't really notice it.

Full sunshine today.

That's a pretty serious deficiency there, almost semi-arid climate. You really needed this rain..
