A quick pic of the northern cell as it made its way through the bay around 3pm. A few lighter hail shafts are evident within the rain.

Also visit the site and see the video of the wind by Jessica Marszalek

@JessMarie_News

Wind gusts of up to 104km/h were reported at Double Island Point, while 98km/h winds gusts were recorded in Bundaberg.

It is believed a home on Moore Park Rd in Bundaberg was destroyed, while a massive tree outside Centrelink was ripped from the ground, the Bundaberg News Mail reports.

There are also reports of a home being seriously damaged on Hunter St, Bundaberg, with powerlines down and entangled in the building.

There are reports one person at Kepnock has been electrocuted, while there are also separate reports of a boat on its side.

Several areas have also reported high rainfall, with 39mm falling near Gin Gin in 15 minutes.

While the threat of severe thunderstorms have eased for the southeast district, a more general severe thunderstorm warning remains current for the Wide Bay and Burnett, Southeast Coast and parts of the Central Highlands and Coalfields, Capricornia and Darling Downs and Granite Belt districts.

Locations which may be affected include Bundaberg, Gladstone, Emerald, Rockhampton, Maryborough, Hervey Bay, Fraser Island, Biloela, Blackwater and Yeppoon, Baralaba, Westwood and Duaringa.

BoM forecaster Michael Paech said “golf-ball” sized hail about 4cm in diameter was expected in Beaudesert and Rainbow Beach over the coming hours.

BSCH were running the webcams, and Ben Quinn was very kind in setting them up, running them, finding hosts, supplying equipment etc etc, and we are very grateful for what he has done and accomplished.

But I think costs have got out of control, and time maybe a big factor in getting around to fixing or replacing faulty cameras and servers.

Kin Kin got smashed, my parents have been here for over 40 years and they've never seen anything like the hail this afternoon. The roads were absolutely carpeted with shredded leaves, the drifts of ice were so thick some still hadn't melted at 7pm. One of the drains near my house got clogged and if the water had got only a millimetre higher it would have been through the house. My dad's car has a heap of damage, luckily only cosmetic.

Wow, some epic storms for some parts! Just over the border, we've had booming thunder, lightning show and a decent drop of rain the past couple of nights. Very nice watching with a cider in hand on the back porch:)

A bit windy but certainly not as much as some areas. My thoughts are with those left with damaged property, injury or worse. Mama says take care on the roads all.

I posted this ABC article on the previous page but this is the update as at 8:34pm. Previous article is also updated but this is for those who are short on time and only get a chance at the last page or so. Life is getting too hectic.

Pictures 4 & 6 are just so reminiscent of the 1985 Brisbane Hailstorm. In fact all the pictures except for the cloud formation remind me of Brisbane in January 1985.

I know it was a weak southerly change that strengthened during the afternoon but I'm still amazed at how far south severe cells developed in SEQ. All in all the best storms come from set-ups with southerly changes.

Bundaberg and surrounds have had significant damage. Roofs off, cane train derailed, 500 mtrs of poles and wires down near home (4 poles in a row) , significant orchard damage to mature macadanias .

Watched a lot of storms over the years, this setup yesterday had me scratching my head a little bit as some these storms seemed to have no real stearing influence. But yet there was a rather prominent southerly flow most of the day. So what was stearing these storms, or was it a case where some of these storms were strong enough to create there own track?

There was strong steering from the west actually, hence the easterly movement of the storms. Thunderstorm steering winds aloft were 35 knot westerlies (while low level winds were ESE'lies by later in the afternoon). This created a lot of shear which also helped to make storms severe.

The storms as Sixties mentioned though did seem to be moving in all directions very apparent on the radar images. We've been getting plenty of storms down here on the border but its been a long time since anything real severe has come through. No hail no shelf clouds no roll clouds gust fronts very few big CGs.

Very heavy rain up to 100 mls north of Lismore overnight. Is there something in the upper atmosphere coming up?

They were moving in different directions because many of them became severe and became splitters/left movers/right movers which usually happens when storms become severe.

But the general tendency was still eastwards, including the non-severe cells.

Was amazed by the cell that went through Narangba and northern suburbs. An obvious case of a right mover that split of a cell further north, but can't recall witnessing anything as severe with such a N-S component to its track over such a distance.

Also I went for a walk just before 12 and the sky had mostly the typical SE wind look to it, but with some clear development commencing. Normally such a situation would lead to weak storms if anything so it interesting to see how quick and severe development came.
