Weird looking shower shapes on the Brisbane 256km radar. Haven’t seen them that ‘wide’ but skinny before.

That's a common radar signature of chaff (small very lightweight metallic coated strips released by military aircraft to confuse enemy radar and radar guided missiles - they're also released during some training exercises and can be carried over long distances by winds).

Some of it's outside of the area of cloud moving up from the SSE and if you go back far enough through the radar, they originated in airspace offshore RAAF Williamtown outside of the main area of clouds.

They're a fairly common sight on weather radars.
Sometimes, things like masses of insects can also form interesting patterns on radar.

I've really enjoyed all the photos , videos and chat about the last storm outbreak.
I started Tuesday at Nanango, with a loose plan of hanging around the Gayndah area then to head toward the coast.
But as I left Nanango some convection was starting just to the east in the ranges near Jimna, At Goomeri I decided to head toward Gympie to catch what had now developed into a storm. Was originally going to head to Cooran but changed to go out to Rainbow Beach thinking it would look nice coming over the sand cliffs and out over the ocean.
It's about 70 km of very little view between Gympie and Rainbow and the old coaster is not built for speed, so was glad to get to the beach and be rewarded with a nice view of it .
Cheers Joe.
