Hi all. When I first got into weather many years ago there was no radar images available and it was all you could do to find any information out there. Now there are heaps of sites with more appearing daily.
Right now I pay for the the Weatherzone service and can see some of the ECMWF info on Layers, but I've also tested out the Accuweather Pro site (free for 14 days wink ) and there is a huge amount of data and maps available. Trouble is the Pro site is really expensive, and the Premium only shows EC data for the USA.
Wondering if anyone has any tips of affordable sites that can access EC data for Australia (that goes beyond what Layers offers?). Other weather info on the site would be a bonus, but EC is the main ask. Thanks smile

Thanks Kino, one thing I have not been able to spot on that site is seeing which run of EC it is showing....do you know if that info is there?
Like I suspect many of us on here that sort of info is kinda important nerd

If you click on left hand side it brings up a menu - has all that info there:

Forecast model: ECMWF 9km
Update interval: 12h - 14h
Updated: 4h ago
Reference time: 2017-11-06T12:00:00Z
Wind
Average wind 10 meters above the surface (or at selected pressure level). Actual wind at the ground is influenced by many factors like mountains, cities, convective clouds and thermal effects.
ECMWF 9km
Very accurate model provided by European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts. Clear winner compared to other forecast models. Since the model is commercial, only few companies in the World offer it.
More
- What is Forecast model?
- What data we use
- How often are data updated

Brilliant Kino, thanks mate

Wondering how on earth they manage to offer all that for no price? EC is usually pretty protective of their data. Not complaining!

No worries - and if you register, you can access their forums were they answer q's and also take suggestions - you can now also put isobars on the maps as an overlay too. It's a pretty amazing free tool tbh.

https://www.wunderground.com/wundermap is similar to Windy in some ways...
https://www.ventusky.com/ also but doesnt have EC.

I also use these a fair bit..
http://www.pivotalweather.com/model.php?...;r=au&dpdt=
https://www.tropicaltidbits.com/analysis...=0&ypos=823

Also https://www.yr.no/place/Australia/ as it uses EC for rainfall.... which I find very accurate.

Thanks Teckert and all. Actually just found another new site to add to the list: weather.us

Shows a whole heap of EC options for free, can easily zoom in and out and change parameters, which I like.

Talks about the Swiss HDF model, which is also has for NSW - anyone know about this? New one to me.

And another free one - ECMWF long range data to be freely available on this site 5 days after it goes to paid customers - expect update on 11th each month, and you can zoom into Australasia. Easy access plumes on there too smile

That weather.us site is awesome thanks KevD. Only one I have seen so far that lets us see the ensemble members in ECMWF and GFS for rain. Seeng that gives a different impression of possibilities

Agreed. Should be a handy resource come cyclone season to watch all the weird & wacky things these ensembles do with them.

That data updates on the 15th every month .

You should try wx.graphics, lots of great free EC data there and the EPS too. Always new parameters and models coming out too.

I've been using weather.us for around a month now and I can attest to how useful it is. I also made a post in a fb group about it (see below) which I hope some here might find useful as well and it's free. Good ole windy.com is great of course as well:

It's got a huge range of EC products (both ensemble & deterministic), GFS, ACCESS-G, etc... here's just a few of the niftier ones.
Most of these have been available internally for ages but it's good that a lot are now freely available.
Recommend changing the units of measurements to metric, changing timezone to Oz time & using the Custom Zoom option):

- EC simulated radar (base) reflectivities.
- EC simulated satpics (IR and WV).
- EC and GFS thunderstorm-composite maps showing wind vectors at different heights overlaid on CAPE (useful for seeing where there's strong backing winds with height).... coloured wind vectors are blue = 300hpa, green = 500hpa, red = 850hpa, black = 10m winds.
- EC ensemble TC probabilities (and TD's and TS's).
- EC forecast maps of significant weather types (thunderstorms, severe storms, fog, snow, ice, light/mod/heavy rain, etc)... I wouldn't treat these maps too literally though.
- EC Extreme Forecast Index maps for temps/precip/wind gusts.
- EC ensemble meteograms for locations with spread.
- Multimodel meteograms for locations (doesn't include all main models though).
- EC low level (0-1km) and deep layer shear (0-6km).
- EC ensemble forecast tracks/intensities for tropical systems.
- EC low/mid/high cloud coverage.
- EC K-index and PWATS.
- EC ensemble probabilities of various amounts of precip.
- EC fire weather index (doesn't factor in fuels though).
- EC 3hr pressure changes.
- EC snow level.
- EC archived model runs going back 4 months.
- EC 3/6/24hr/accumulated precip.
- EC wind gusts.
- EC dust and other aerosols causing haze.
- Satellite-derived 1/3/24hr observed precip estimates.
- Satellite-derived fog, volcanic ash, etc.
- EC monthly forecasts (but only run once a month).
- EC sig wave heights/direction.
- Ability to view each of the 50 members in the EC ensemble.
- Lightning.
- US stuff including stormtracking, radar VIL's, echo tops, etc.
