Guess so, picking up storms from the Wollemi then Broken Back would be the main direction you would look in Spring n Summer I imagine.

Also storms coming down the Hunter from Merriwa/Sandy Hollow way etc

yep. Most storms will come from the W or NW, but the biggest storms and supercells come from the SW in my experience. Im always nervy when there are storms brewing and strong SW shear.

Nice little cell trying to get over the watagans now heading straight for us. See if it survives.

yep there you go....beautiful slow moving shower that the watagans didnt delete. The turn is on, because you only get this sort of random stuff in marginal setups when its raining (ie the atmosphere is in La nina). Its slow, but really it should get very wet over summer.....

almost enough for some puddles...maybe 4mm.

Thats the other thing around here, we get just totally random rain at times that can pay nicely, and zero on a sure bet day.

Another fine, cool and breezy day in Sydney, almost chilly in the wind. Pretty much a carbon copy of yesterday (for those old enough to remember carbon paper). 'Apperent temps' at 3:00PM were 16 at OH and 13 at the Airport.

The showers that came ashore further North were out to sea off Sydney. Here's the view early this afternoon from near Eden Gardens, Macquarie Park, about 14 km inland as the crow flies (Chatswood on the right):

A lot of storms to come up from the West and move SE and slip behind the Watagan range then move down over the central coast GringosRain,I have seen that many of times. When it all come's down to it we get more rain then Cessnock out here close to the range,I am about 2kms north of the Watagan Range. It cover's an area to my SE,S & SW,then NW and joins up then to the Broken Back Range west of Cessnock,I am in a big valley here.at Ellalong.

Got you covered with 3.6 out here (airport), not so surprising out here though although still fresh.

Full sunshine now.

8-23C today, cool night but mild enough day, and in summer clothes and thongs in the arvo.
Looking at 24C tomorrow, then a succession of 25-26C days with around 11-12C nights until mid next week, certainly cannot complain about that, esp as will be off work next week.
They can carbon copy those temps every day!

Minimums still less than forecast again, and still at single digit figures.
Looking forward to a 25-26C day though in the valley.

It's been a cool November so far in Sydney. Counting today, Bankstown is tracking 12.6 to 23.3 (-1.8, -2.1 compared to November average). OH is tracking 14.5 to 22.3 (-1.5, -1.4 compared to 1961-90).

Looking at the forecast, the negative anomalies will reduce, but not by much. We may be getting a rare cooler than average month.

------

Another benign, sunny day in Sydney after early cloud cleared. There's no warmth in the breeze but it was a good day for outdoors. This pattern looks set to continue for a few days (BOM seems to be expecting more cloud on the weekend), then things look like they might become a bit unsettled from mid next week.

Very La Nina’ish Steve, minus the rainfall (so far). Would be close to the coldest start to November on record?

Looking ahead, next week is starting to firm up for being wet, with deep thermal trough activity and long fetch ne’erlies pumping moisture into eastern Aus. Could see some substantial falls along the coast and it’ll be humid.

Usually this kind of weather pattern would bring miserable weather for the east coast so it's been nice to get these mostly sunny (albeit cool) days. Feels very autumnal to me actually, especially with fog for the last two mornings up here in the Highlands.

I'm not overly optimistic about the La Nina coming up because it is fairly weak at this stage and a positive IOD is cancelling out its effects anyway. So it will be a pretty average summer I think with decent rainfall but nothing like the last 2 La Nina's (2007-08, 2010-12). I also have a feeling it will be a good storm season, a weak La Nina is probably good for storms.

November 1998 would have to be in recent times.
I recall some 27 out of 30 days were below average for the month, from memory it got worse as the month went on, it was a almost a whole month of onshore SSE winds and cloud and light rain/ drizzle.
This was also a form reversal from early spring.
This year is quite mild, just slightly below average.

Love this weather not to hot and not to cold, but more rain would be good to run the creeks, and give them a flush out.

Is there any chance of the cell north east of Canberra hitting Sydney.
