It goes to show that a the most expensive team in the whole competition and two of the wingers worth 300 million euros can be held back by the Australian spirit. I'm going to miss all the controversy though with the new VAR system being used. Also we have a bright future ahead with people like Daniel Arzani (who went to my high school) smile , coming through the youth program.

Absolutely Eddy.
We were far from humiliated and took it to one of the best teams in the world. France were lucky. We were not.
At least the REAL football in Australia has a world tournament to play in. Look out Denmark and Peru.

BTW, which country is the next "All Australian AFL team" playing against?

Yep, agreed.

I had some customers come in yesterday and said that the frogs will flog us, my response to them was an upset is on the cards if the "REF" was fair!!

It looks the VAR got the call wrong for the penalty they missed one vital angle showing the ball was touched by Risdon before he took out Greizmann's legs.

You are correct. Risdon definitely gets a touch.
Also, if Greizmann wanted to stay on his feet, he could have. Went down like a bag of [censored].

The problem I have with this decision is that the rules state that the referee's decision can only be overturned if there is conclusive evidence that the original decision was wrong. How could the VAR monkey possibly have decided this was the case on the evidence provided?

Absolutely right, Greizmann only goes down once he realizes the ball is out of reach and the ball is in the safe hands of Ryan who was perfectly positioned at the time.

If it was a penalty the ref should've awarded it straight away, but instead he changes his mind, stops the game 30 seconds later to use this video thing (which I haven't even heard of up until that point, and hasn't been used in 100 years of FIFA up until yesterday?) Not only that but to slow the video to 100th of the speed and still get it wrong. Give me a break, match fixing at it's finest. Argentina and France - the protected species.

I was forced to watch the first half of the soccer with my wife (she is a pom).

To put this in context I grew up in a very Aussie environment. Soccer was simply a game New Australians and Pommies played. True Aussies surfed and played league.

What I saw just reinforced why I do not like the game.

The French must have gone to a great acting academy. While the Aussies seemed to be confused which was the scoring goal end, as they seemed to be kicking the ball backwards more often than forward.

When you're cornered by a team with such speed and ferocity like France, your only Option is the safe one - kick it back to the keeper. Good defense structure and tactic by the coach. However I do think they lacked a bit of aggression in attack, and I'd be telling them not to be scared to take a risk having a shot from outside the box from time to time. If they keep playing the way they did, they have a chance at winning the next 2 games

Apparently Optus disgraced themselves again last night again with their live streaming dropping out on numerous occasions.

How the government and Football Australia allowed this is beyond me. They should have left the coverage wholly on solely to SBS.

SBS will be showing all games live for the next 48 hours only because of Optus screw ups. Personally I hope Optus keeps screwing up!!

Another good effort by the Aussie's last night, probably a bit unlucky not to come away with the win, just lacking that killer blow atm.
IMO Arzani will be the man to land that killer blow in future matches.

Was a good game but what the hell is wrong with the coach. Why would you leave Cahill on the bench. He may be old in comparison but the guy knows how to find the back of a net during free play. I would bet my house he would have put Arzanis cross into the back of the net

Yeah Brett Guy, I'm all for giving the young blokes a go, its the future, but sometime an old head out there for the last ten minutes or so can be the difference!!

I thought the same thing too. It's crazy not sending Cahill on, especially when you think what he did against Japan in 2006 - came on late in the game, scored two goals in the space of about ten minutes, helping give Australia victory.

Probably the same reason why he wasnt given much game time at the Melb city, and then why he barely played any mins at Milwall.
and Lol @ 2006.... it was 12 years ago!!
