A combination of moist NE flow during today with the help of some cold uppers should see some onshore showers and rain areas with localised pockets of heavy before the ridge strengthens up again tomorrow with reducing rainfall.

Some rainfall totals approaching 50mm around the Maroochydore area this morning already.

Stapy showing some nice onshore showers, some look quite lumpy. Shower train trying to couple itself to our NE. Gonabe a dampish sort of day.

Why is it that upper features are not included on weather maps? Upper systems seem to have just as much influence on day to day weather as surface systems. Could they not just be included in a different colour. Thanks for starting thread. Only a few spots at Caloundra this morning.

Because the title of the weather chart is MSLP (Mean Sea Level Pressure) chart which shows weather features at that level - the surface. You can get charts for upper levels up to 200 mb from memory.

I think the lay person has enough trouble understanding this chart without putting more information on there smile.

Had 13mm at Indooroopily since 6am this morning. Has anyone heard any thunder, as the SE Qld thunderstorm tracker on the BOM website is active?

Storm birds were calling out this morning, usually a reliable sign of coming rain. Frog in nearby downpipe is singing too. No rain today as yet but my nature friends are obviously anticipating a good drop or two! Windy, overcast and cool today. Good day to walk on the beach smile

Some light drizzle around this morning. Looks to be heavier just to our south and east. If it continues and some of the heavier stuff can work it's way up here, Warwick might avoid one of its driest months on record. Killarney area looks to be in line for a good soaking. It doesn't seem to matter what direction the rain and storms are coming from, Killarney always seems to score the goods. What a beautiful area. I love taking the short drive SE and enjoying the scenery.

Thanks for that explanation as I've wondered the same in regards to upper systems not being on maps. Learning new things all the time still a great forum thanks.

Better late than never.... The thunderstorm module in this script has been updated with the newest version of the thunderstorm script (have noticed there's already been some localised lightning detected near and SW of Brisbane).
The "becoming cloudy" bit instead of just "cloudy" is because the script doesn't know anything about what the skies were like before the start of the forecast period:

Terrible weather to drive in, had a narrow band of rain from about blacksoil all the way to Logan early this morning. Nightmare highway driving, visibility was very poor at times, now we're driving home and oh look, raining again. Yet radar shows it stipped drizzling at home just after we left, its all coastal, I thought this weekend was supposed o be mainly inland *sigh*
