A combination of moist NE flow during today with the help of some cold uppers should see some onshore showers and rain areas with localised pockets of heavy before the ridge strengthens up again tomorrow with reducing rainfall.

Some rainfall totals approaching 50mm around the Maroochydore area this morning already.

Stapy showing some nice onshore showers, some look quite lumpy. Shower train trying to couple itself to our NE. Gonabe a dampish sort of day.

Why is it that upper features are not included on weather maps? Upper systems seem to have just as much influence on day to day weather as surface systems. Could they not just be included in a different colour. Thanks for starting thread. Only a few spots at Caloundra this morning.

Because the title of the weather chart is MSLP (Mean Sea Level Pressure) chart which shows weather features at that level - the surface. You can get charts for upper levels up to 200 mb from memory.

I think the lay person has enough trouble understanding this chart without putting more information on there smile.

Storm birds were calling out this morning, usually a reliable sign of coming rain. Frog in nearby downpipe is singing too. No rain today as yet but my nature friends are obviously anticipating a good drop or two! Windy, overcast and cool today. Good day to walk on the beach smile

Some light drizzle around this morning. Looks to be heavier just to our south and east. If it continues and some of the heavier stuff can work it's way up here, Warwick might avoid one of its driest months on record. Killarney area looks to be in line for a good soaking. It doesn't seem to matter what direction the rain and storms are coming from, Killarney always seems to score the goods. What a beautiful area. I love taking the short drive SE and enjoying the scenery.

Better late than never.... The thunderstorm module in this script has been updated with the newest version of the thunderstorm script (have noticed there's already been some localised lightning detected near and SW of Brisbane).
The "becoming cloudy" bit instead of just "cloudy" is because the script doesn't know anything about what the skies were like before the start of the forecast period:

Terrible weather to drive in, had a narrow band of rain from about blacksoil all the way to Logan early this morning. Nightmare highway driving, visibility was very poor at times, now we're driving home and oh look, raining again. Yet radar shows it stipped drizzling at home just after we left, its all coastal, I thought this weekend was supposed o be mainly inland *sigh*

Not sure where you heard that? That big inland band of thunderstorms yesterday was never predicted to reach the coast yesterday - instead the coast was forecast to get showers and rain areas in the onshore flow today.

Post from yesterday:

" The current big band of inland activity probably won't reach the coast here.
Most of our rainfall (which probably won't be that much) will probably be in the form of showery weather or patchy rain coming in off the ocean, with some places having the chance of localised thunder (which would enhance rainfall in those spots). "

Lovely 21mm and counting here at RD. Just what was needed. Too the tank back up, and get some more moisture into the soil after a dry couple of weeks.

Lol Ken, that was serious patchy rain haha. I just thought the heavier rain was predicted to be inland (further inland than my place but I was hoping anyway) and on the radar there was a huge band of rain right down the south east coast. I was kind of hoping not to drive in heavy whiteout conditions on the highway. Two pretty bad accidents, car and trailer rolled westbound as we came down and as we drove west, a car had crashed near Kolo eastbound. I hope the driver was ok, it didnt look pretty. I'm glad people got some good rain though smile

Yeah a pretty heavy shower here... enough to wake me and get me out in it on gutter, drain and tank inlet screen patrol. You could hear it coming.
Radar has some chunky showers coming onshore up this way.

Id thought it was settling down for the night and is meeting if not exceeding my expectations (hence getting wet at 3am) and the boms forecast of 80% chance and 10-15mm for Maroochydore with totals in the area above 30mm.

Does anybody find it odd that it seems to be raining more in the scenic rim region compared to the coast? A lot more cloud out there as well.

Nope? The Scenic Rim has an abrupt wall of mountains which greatly encourages orographic uplift of moist SE winds. Unless you're looking at one of the recent Mt Stapylton radar scans which is doing its usual trick of not showing rainfall within about 70km radius at random times.

Before today, there had only been the odd, brief shower over the two previous days (0.6mm on 16th, and 1.8mm on 17th).
Early this morning however, some heavy showers moved through and helped to bring 20.0mm in the 24hrs to 9am. The showers had cleared by mid-morning and it remained fine until a shower came ashore late this afternoon (bringing 1.6mm).

About 50 mm, or two inches in the scale I first learnt, since rain started early Saturday for here.
Was enough to wet the catchment and start flow in our waterway.

WE2S beyond This November and the average November, most this year has been well off average. I agree a long way to go, but also such long ways do change quickly. Hope you get the rain soon

Yes, anything but average lately Flowin. At least it is great sleeping weather! Models have been persistent on a wet period here the first week of Dec. Let us see....
