Awesome shot PlumbBob.

The map below via the MyFireWatch site shows the detected lightning in the 24hrs to 9pm tonight (red) and the lightning in the 24hrs prior to that (up to 9pm Friday) in the orange:

81mm of sideways rain made it into the diamond valley rain gauge
Overland flow incredible, river rising, roads closed trees down. Trains stuck on track. What a mess.
Crazy

Ended up with 63mm here at home while nearby Tewantin only had 33mm... Had a crazy sight this afternoon with 3 waterspouts touching down at the same time off Peregian Beach. Managed to get a half decent snap of a lightning bolt in amongst then all too! Check it out on my facebook page... https://www.facebook.com/GeorgeBergPhoto...?type=3&theater

Well, that cap that was in place today did end up eroding thankfully! She was a beauty, I haven't seen a storm like that for quite some time!

I heard the roar of the rain and wind in the distance for a couple of minutes before it actually hit! Intense rain was then quickly followed by very strong winds blowing at least 80km/hr. plenty of close CGs as well.

Some great falls for some of you guys. We would barely have had 2mm , and the gust front may have dislodged one leaf off my gum. Missed out. Question for ken , with lightning detection ala your map , can they decipher a cg from in cloud only lightning?

Beautiful morning all, 19mm to report, rain/hail stayed away until 6pm as requested, got most the food cooked & it all turned out ok, hail didnt get big enough for damage but some anxious faces showing when cars got marbles bouncing off. Some good gusts of wind bending trees as well. Nice pics everyone.
Next one please.

Not a drop here. 3 rounds went past, within a couple of kilometres. Frustrating, but we'll get our turn sooner or later!

11.5mm Friday and nothing yesterday. The southerly change feels great! This spring so far has felt great overall with below normal temps. This weekend we feel our first real heat except for that one day in late Sept. hope this leads to good storms afterwards....

Big T: Yep some lightning detection networks can distinguish between cloud to ground and cloud to cloud lightning (e.g. Weatherzone's network where the cloud to cloud strokes show up as the tiny squares) but in that map I posted, it includes both.

Awesome photos PlumbBob and Namarrkun, Thanks to Ken for the maps and the accurate forecasting well done to the BOM and everyone else here who contributes.

It seemed the shelf cloud was more defined inland from the photos I have seen, not so much were I was on the Gold Coast, maybe the capping was preventing that. It looked bad up the sunny coast with fallen tress etc, hope everyone's ok and things can get back to normal. I'm just editing some pics now from yesterday and ill post them soon.

Fantastic pics everyone! Largely missed out here as well last night, just 7.4mm in the gauge this morning. Still a total of 29mm for the last 2 days, should keep the grass green for the next week or two! Heres a a couple of quick snaps from me first one is a severe cell to the east of here yesterday evening, the second is the gust front that moved through Friday arvo.

Here's a few photos from the last couple of days:

From the 8th. Another phone pano. As mentioned earlier, the guster didn't look all that great until it passed into warm waters of the bay.

Yesterday's cells, while potentially destructive, didn't really look all that great with regards to structure. Coming off the ranges they seemed a bit under cooked, though displayed prominent hail shafts kicking up some reasonable surface winds and gusts.

A little scary to see so many people on the side of the roads with cameras in Beaudesert yesterday. I hope we don't become a public menace.
