I'm wondering how Weatherzone recorded a maximum temperature for Young on Tuesday 19.12.2017 of 40 when the BOM at 3.30pm on that day recorded the maximum as 38 for the day. I have also noticed that most of the time the temperature readings for Young from both forecasters is never the same, why?

The public reporting of readings taken from Bureau of Meteorology
Stations is a mystery that passeth all understanding. Twinkletoes.

Ours not to reason why.

Bom Data for Young for 19th December does shows a max of 40C which is the same as you said you got from Weatherzone, so looks OK to me?

For years I have been opening the 24-hour graph for Tamworth Airport on "weatherzone", identifying the points of daily maximum and minimum, and noting them down for my own records.
For me, those readings as as authoritative as I need.

There was an occasion when the readings for successive days, as I had personally noted them down, were remarkable in that they were the same and were spaced precisely ten degrees apart.
I wrote to the newspaper about it, but there was no point in printing my letter, as the official figures supplied to the newspaper were quite different. To the Editor, it seemed that I must have blundered.

I did ask for an explanation on this forum at the time.

Guys what I'm trying to discover is why BOM on their 72 hour observation list for Young showed Young's maximum temp for Tuesday 19 Dec was 38 at 3.30pm. I have just been to their summary page for the day and you are right it does show 40 as the maximum for Young on that date. Starting to look like Goulburn when it was recorded at -10.7 on a day last Winter then reduced back to -10.0.
