Storms developing in a big line from NW-SE with the southerly change around Coffs Harbour at the moment. Looks like storms around 6 hours away from Brisbane. GFS/EC both have storms reaching well up to Brisbane, Access-R has stalling. Some very interesting wind profiles on GFS soundings for tonight which could really pump up the rainfall. I think we're in for a great late Christmas present tonight.

Big show for Darling Downs tomorrow and back to general storms across SEQ on Wednesday. Looking ahead there could be some big storm activity on New Years Eve and early next year. Finally something to watch!

Nice Christmas sandman there Namarrkun. smile

9.2mm here from a fairly lightning active storm that moved through here almost an hour ago bringing moderate to briefly heavy rain and strong winds (peak approx 65km/h). Caught some lightning on my mobile camera as it cleared away -

Looks like another wave of storms could be moving in from the west a little later. Christmas campers are probably thinking of renaming South West Rocks to 'South Wet Rocks'.

22.6mm here since 9am this morning from three thunderstorms. The second storm suddenly developed just after my previous post, bringing moderate to heavy rain, a moderate amount of lightning, and some strong wind. Shortly followed by the third moving in behind, which was weak, bringing steady to moderate rain and only a little lightning before it died out.

I think that might be it for the day here. SE'ly winds look to have established themselves on the tablelands to the west of here and are preventing further convection.

This is looking really good for Brisbane. The speed and direction is pretty perfect, especially if it back-builds a bit. Timing is great, should get it in the next couple of hours so not too late.

Nice for me to spend Christmas Day looking at storms approaching.
Temp and humidity not much good for much else.
If storms get here good.
If they don't I will enjoy the watching nonetheless
