Great roll cloud Perfect Storm.

Re wind gusts, they could be associated with the storm cell passing just to the South of the CBD. Looks quite lightning-active although I haven't heard any thunder here (back home). The Airport has picked up 3.6mm.

-----

Car thermometer was showing 41 degrees at Gordon (North Shore) under sunshine about an hour ago.

EDIT: now getting rumbles and the first stirrings of the change.

Reached a high of 28.6C here earlier. Cooled off to 23C since the cloud moved in. There are a few very light showers - not enough to wet anything. No storms either so looks like another dry change for us.

Arrived in Sydney today from New Zealand for a few days. Certainly hot for our arrival. Some thunder here at Watsons Bay just now.

Enjoy your stay Patrick.
Shame Christmas Day is going to be a bit cloudy, overcast and showery.

I was thinking that as well Steve - re the outflow from the storm, so I checked the Doppler wind and it appeared that yes, it was the southerly.
Temps and observations have now confirmed that.
The southerly has just come through here in the past 5 minutes. Temp has dropped about 6 degrees in that time.
This could be one of those changes where there is a cooler surge later on after the initial change now has arrived - the same as the one we got during the week.

Thunderstorms in Upper Hunter, Northern Tablelands and the adjacent ranges of North Coast may bring large hailstones as well.

Here's the view from Tunks Hill (NW end of Lane Cove National Park) before the change arrived. It was still 40 degrees on the car thermometer but there were storms about:

There's an odd cloud formation, probably out to sea, framing the buildings of Chatswood (4.3 km distant as the crow flies).

-----

Had thunder and a bit of distant lightning here, with a short shower of big drops. A storm cell passed to my South, over the CBD, which scored 1.2mm. Probably not enough to register here.

Nothing on the North side of Sydney, a fairly weak Southerly here trying to take hold.
Looks like any rainfall CBD, and to the South and then across the upper Central Coast/Lower Hunter. Bah

I don't care how 'rubbish' the change is, I'll take it. Sweet cool air for free.

Hi all, a warm one out here at the farm this arvo. Has only dropped below 40 degrees in the last 30 minutes or so, currently sitting on 37.9. Wind is a steady NW'er and dry as a bone. We had literally 2 spots of rain as a very weak storm passed just to our North. Hoping for something more a bit later, but currently VERY uncomfortable out here. Merry Christmas to all!!!!!

Yep, just as I thought and mentioned earlier, the southerly has finally strengthened and cooled. The first change was still warm.
Winds are now strong and gusty south-easterly and the sky is being filled increasingly with low flying scud.
Almost completely overcast now and just 23 degrees.
Bring on the drizzle.

In Stroud in the Hunter for Christmas and a great storm through earlier. Strong winds, heaps of lightning, 12mm of rain and some fantastic cloud formations. Power still out.
