Yes Signalman, I am sittting outside now and it feels quite comfortable out here. But yes, all you have to do is listen to the constant rumbles and look at the radar to know we have a couple of developing beasts to our west! Right now, looks to go either side of us, but way to early to predict.

Wow Ken, it still amazes me how you can go from clear skies to rapid development and hail like that in such a short period of time!

Very interested to see if this activity pushes NE over to broader parts of SEQ. BOM and the models seemed to think so. Temps are high 20s across SEQ with dewpoints around 20 and a gentle easterly inflow. Lots of moisture to play with if those storms can spread.

Latest BOM warning says golf to cricket-ball sized hail reported with that storm near Oakey.

Anyone seen the predicted temperatures by EC & GFS for NYE? BoM only going for 31 but if those models hold I can see them upgrading those to something like 33-35c. Looking like storms around that period too.

edit: actually I'm looking at Saturday, Sunday (NYE) looks to depend on how early storms fire, and a potential SE change. GFS has an absolute scorcher for Sunday.

Agreed Mega, I think the Dec 31-Jan 6 period looks big for SEQ. Stuck in an unstable pattern and GFS putting out some huge storm-related falls (think yesterday's falls but even heavier and more frequent).

It's been a long time since we've had frequent severe storm activity in late Dec/early Jan in SEQ.

A couple of dangerous Storm cells on the track map out near Toowoomba and just south of the border out west.

Had 53.5mm yesterday from a ripper storm which came through before 6pm. Quite a few close flangs and some very strong wind, not to mention the torrential rain. Today is now cool and overcast with light drizzle. It seems amazing that there are storms in the area actually.

Yes Colin, the ones between us and Texas I am paying particular attention to. Have seen this before and looks to be a south of Warwick thing, but I hope they reach a bit further north and give us a good drink. We need it.

But I guess if we get a supercell out of this, it can make that left hand hook and go west of us. Seen that too...

Well, all went west of here as expected. Still, lots more down south and west of here. Hoping for a late night cracker. What an explosive event for this area!

Who was our Kingaroy local again? I'd love to hear his perspective of that storm on radar up there at the moment.

Seems like it would look great on the ground.

Looks bloody monstrous! Some pretty strong inflow gusts from the NE feeding it too. Strong green tinge and ground scraping scud just coming into view. Looks like the core of it will pass to the west which is probably a good thing eek
