If the tropics get going we're more likely to be ridged out of any action than get any monsoonal/tropical activity. I'm actually hoping the tropics stay quiet so the mid-latitude troughs + high SSTs in the Tasman keep the storms going.

Yea I dont mind the ridging, dont't mind watching the odd TL or TC.

Got home from Gatton, had to leave just as it got going, a few pot plants bum up & branches lying around. No power, gennie time if it doesnt come back at darktime.
I'm stabbing a bit in the dark here but if wind causing branches & trees messing with the power lines, maybe Energex need to get their contractors to cut trees further away. Had one here a few months ago, great guy leaving plenty of mulch for us but couldnt chop the biggest problem because it 'wasnt close enough'.
Oh well, at least they do some of it.

Due to come back at 6pm from Energex. If it doesn’t bring your generator over here please laugh we are still yet to buy one.

Cheers cookie. When you buy genset, nothing less than 5kva for house pump, lights & a couple fridges. If yu got electronics, get one with a power regulator for stable voltage, generally more expensive. Looking like a great sunset atm. Welcome to Mt Hallen btw.

That storm out west of Wivenhoe today looked monstrous. I walked outside work to take a look and it covered the entire sky with massive mammatus under the anvil.

Was worried for you Mad Elf, glad you made it out relatively unscathed.

I was pretty hopeful for somethin to flare up so I went for a drive got to the top of Terranora and could see distant towers to the west and south west.At that point I thought do I go north and catch it at Beauy or go south west of Murwillumbah.Stupid me went south west as far as Tyalgum and observed it all heading to Boonah. Then drove over the mountain range given up when I saw it all west of Brisbane but as I approached the Nerang turnoff pulled over for one more radar check and saw some activity near Beaudesert heading toward Canungra. So I tore off to Canungra givin it one last go and got treated to a very nice rumbling cell above the hilltop at the back of the town and nice structures including a beaver tail at one stage.Pelted down for about half an hour no hail or scary winds but all in all a nice thunderstorm treat as a reward for a lot of driving and some nice pics on my phone.

Saw this link on Instagram and is also on the Rescue 500 FB page. Vision of the storms this afternoon to the north of Gayndah through Night Vision Glasses. Crew of helicopter Rescue 500 performing a medical retrieval from Gayndah to RBH enroute to Gayndah.

https://www.facebook.com/rescue500queensland/videos/2049951575223763/

A page to watch as if they fly any tasks during weather they often record and put the vision up.

Distant thunder heard from Wynnum Nth but that was all as local seabreeze once more kept the storms at bay to our west.

Looks like very late afternoon action coming in from the NW; hope it makes it here - then we can take all the good stuff before it travels to the city-ites, lol.
Might even get some mowing done in the cool of the evening before it gets here... hoping.

Dont know about anyone else but its still so humid & hot with hardly a breeze. Hard to think there be no storms forecast for us today. Some ripening clouds floating about.

Just looking at the water vapour loop hints at the late afternoon activity today. Not sure how far down it will come but going off the activity I've watched on there over the past month, I'm willing to say there's a distinct possibility.

Yes Kazz, bit of something to the NW alright, fingers & toes crossed it might reach you, doubt it will reach us though.
Just checked Stapy, bit of slow moving colour around Yarraman. Hmmm.

Oh yes, we got quite a good one for rain. Started light & noisy and quickly escalated to a right & proper downpour.
Lotsa swirling winds, not severe though & a cracking CG that certainly hit something. You know what's coming when the power goes out and you can hear the sound of crackling getting louder & louder. Still peeling the cat & dog off the ceiling, lol.
8.5mm here, and I still maintain we were on the edge of it so dunno how Gus's side of town fared.
When I looked earlier at the maps I suspected it was going to come down from the NW and then turn back to go on a NorthEast track out to the coast.
Sadly for you, that's what it did But there's hope et that more will push down; guess it depends on what's pusing up from the South.

It's smashing Wondai now, daughter just texted saying she can't see the trampoline, lol. The joys of rural living in a fairly new house!

Looked to be a noisy storm while it was around Kingaroy, Kazz. Another day of storm potential for the Wide Bay / Burnett and the Darling Downs tomorrow too.

---

Received 388.0mm of rain and 19 thunderstorm hits here during this Christmas - New Year storm outbreak (beginning on Dec 20th). It's been quite a memorable storm outbreak here, much like November 2013's.

Definitely noticed the difference today with the dewpoints dropping from the recent 20-25șC range, and were instead around 16-17șC. It has felt much more comfortable.
It should remain settled around here until about mid next week when there may be a slight chance of a storm.

I just finished my job at Nanango as the rain & lightning started there. Bolted for home & drove straight into it heading towards Brooklands. Almost white-out conditions with some small hail and plenty of close CG's.
It had passed over Brooklands by the time I got there, but they had had a good drop with the cultivations very wet.
Not a drop here at Ellesmere.
I read on FB someone got over 3" at Maidenwell.

Yeah, I think it was just Flo saying her last goodbyes, lol.

Certainly has sped up as it moves Northward. I daresay that one plus the one coming from the side will meet up in Gayndah for a cracking storm; they seem to get good ones there.

For all that have generated, most have been eaten up when they hit the range; will be interesting to see what the remnants look like if they travel this far later.
It may sound self-defeating (for a storm watcher) but I love watching the effect the range has on different systems that come through.
