That's scary haha! Seriously though this morning I got up and watched this storm approach amazed at the amount of lightning not far off and then got treated to a massive lightning flash that caused the loudest longest bang of thunder I have ever heard ,and I've seen a lot of storms in my time. There were 3 more of these to follow Incredible stuff!

My place only just missed out on those overnight storms but if I was awake at the time, I probably would've seen the lightning - Weatherzone radar/lightning image for that time, 24hr lightning to 7:30am this morning, and latest thunderstorm map below:

Last one of those was New Years Day 1963 that went through Sunshine Coast. It was about a category one / half but still called a cyclone by the definition back then ( below 1000 hPa ).

The southerly , though appears to be a weak one, appears to be knocking on our door along the border, will this reduce the chances of severe storms as it's coming thru early?

I was searching for something on Facebook just now and stumbled across a post from his site; someone complaining about no warning for a storm this morning. While that's usual from " Joe Public" the part that rang true for me was when they said something like ' the fact that you guys have posted warning after warning for weeks led me to believe when there's no warning there's nothing to worry about'. (or words to that effect).
Now we here know how silly that frame of mind is, but that IS what ' Joe Public' who pays their dollars thinks.
And that's where it becomes a dangerous precedent.
People will believe what they want to believe, and unfortunately when they pay, they think that makes them safe from bad weather.
Online, people can & will charge for anything & everything ... there's more dangerous stuff than this online when it's put into perspective.

In reality they are just publishing the extremes of what COULD happen; always thinking about the feather in their cap & the extra dollars that would come if they get a chance to say " We were first to warn about this". It's just amateur sensational journalism in its crudest form. They do it because they can.

back to today. By gees its heating up early and fast. 33c and 60% makes for a sticky morning. Just finished mowing and it looked like I'd been swimming. Here's hoping for a Mother Nature fireworks display to see the old out and the new in..

We've just got a light cloud cover here after what has been a hot & humid morning. Grass still wet from lasts nights' rain though.
(No doubt the thinnish cloud will bring calls of "Not enough heating now, no storms for Kingaroy" from you-know-who)
No doubt the sun will be out very soon & we'll see what happens then.
Looking at the progression of storms over the past week, I'd say we could possibly get a drop again today but so far today it doesn't feel like anything nasty is coming; just the regular Qld Summer storm time.

Recent observed sounding showing some capping in the mid levels and low level coastal cap keeping things from firing too early, just watched some towering cumulus in my area but not enough to fire up just yet. Feeling pretty confident today cold air aloft pretty good shear imo and winds backing with height. Multi model has better precip north of Bris and a little spot what looks around the Tweed/border GC, with steering winds from the WSW so id probably expect storms to form around the ranges and steer into these coastal areas later on..

I'm staying at cooloongatta at the moment. I don't like this area for storms as they seem to always fail before getting here. Unless there is something I am missing. Brisbane looks in perfect position today
