Well, looks like an interesting week coming up with severe in the forecast for this weekend. Every day has a possible storm. So thought I would start this one to cut into the new year. Mods you could move this topic to the 2018 period when the clock ticks over at midnight 2018 smile But looks to be a great period for some weather for us.

Looks like some localised activity might try to spring up in the south (and possibly inland) today then some more trying to spread towards the coast later tonight or overnight.

I'd think the chance of very large hail is a bit reduced today though due to warmer midlevels.

The better shear in southern parts of our region including NSW means one or two storms have a better chance of becoming severe there although the cloud cover might complicate things.

Latest output for today includes the overnight hours tonight til 6am tomorrow:

Well we've almost reached 33° here and it's only 9:30, wouldn't be surprised if we hit 40° here today.

Cloud cover a concern today. However the cloud was forecasted many days ago so I'm surprised about storms being forecasted unless it's been changed?

Cloud cover won’t always stop storms forming especially if there’s gaps in it like today unless there’s not enough instability to overcome it.

Sure is steamy today, even with the cloud cover the dps are in the low twenties. Wednesday is looking the pick of this week at the moment, heaps of instability.

Saturday and Wednesday are the pick of the days for the Brisbane area.

Looking at 00z GFS for Wednesday it's one of the best set-ups I've seen in years. Mid-30s and clear skies. Southerly change strengthening in the afternoon with mid-level trough just east of Toowoomba. 3000+ CAPE, cold uppers, winds almost backing with height. Only bad thing is the shear is slack. Almost a dream set-up and would surely see massive storms over coastal SEQ. Unfortunately EC and Access-G are not nearly as interested and it's days away, but still the day to watch.

Blob evolved into a half decent line, and going in the perfect direction.
Almost dark here but them clouds in the SW are still black!
Probably gona crap itself coming off the range.

Nice lightshow with heaps of grumbling to the SW here. Cell responsible seems to have made it over the ranges and is making a beeline for Kingaroy, surely too good to be true?? Will be watching with interest over the next hour..
