It was 37 on the veranda about an hour ago.

Storm is heading this way so both bitches that fight together are in the house. Muzzled of course to prevent them killing each other.

We lost power for about 5 minutes. Back on now. Hubby checked the new gauge and it has 40 ml in it. That should green things up again and top up the tanks.

36 deg in Yeppoon !

At least at 1pm the NE breeze finally came in.

Temp has dropped 4 deg but the feels like temp has dropped from 36-38 deg to 33 deg.

If I remember last year we had days and days of 30 deg plus with no relief . Wheras at the end of this week SE winds are predicted smile

Only got to 31 deg inside and haven't had the air con on, just fans .

It is bloody hot but the storms at this stage appear fast moving and sporadic. It might be your typical heat storm. Lots of noise, but little rain.

I had the 2 dogs doing absolute stupid again tonight. Lost power for a while. Then it spent the next half hour flicking in and out when it did come back.

18ml of rain out of it. I would love that much rain daily without the light show and noise.

Daughter was travelling back home from down south. Highway was a crawl. Then a lightning bolt hit the ground not far away from her. Poor baby had brown knickers after that one.

Very heavy rain here now, nowhere as much lightning as last night maybe because this line of storms are moving quite quickly so I expect it will pass over in 15-20mins. Might see some back building action after. Still muggy as hell.

Where I am never seems to benefit from storms that come from the west. They generally never get here but rather split as they hit the Dee range. We do generally benefit from rain that comes in from the coast.

Only thing we do get is lack of power. 18 hours without electricity last night to this afternoon. Then it just went out for an hour again.

Gold plated network I think not. High power prices caused by waste methinks after seeing how Ergon operates with line maintenance.

Well that was no bloody fun at all. We got hammered in every direction. 2 modems blown up. After the first one got done and the storm had passed I plugged in a backup to check the weather. Next front had it blowing bits across the room.

No power.
No mobiles
I have pulled apart the phone system, replaced every single replacable bit and now have inet and home phone at least.

NOT happy.

Our power went off last night for about 5mins . I rushed around and immediately turned off the modem and the dishwasher and the fridge in case when the power returned it caused issues.

Luckily all good.

Only 29 deg today, humid compared to yesterday and not much of a breeze. Barely hitting 20km/hr here.

Been watching the small storm thatís travelled along the coastline from north Brisbane area for the last 4 hours. Itís nearly reached 1770 and wouldnít be surprised if it reached Gladstone maybe. No doubt associated with the strong southerly change pushing up the coast. Go hard little one you can do it! lol

You can have it. It has just reached here 5 minutes after the power fellas fixed my blown up transformer. 26 or so hours without power. Still dodgy inet. Even dodgier mobile reception. How can I have 4 bars but not enough service to make a phone call?

I know what itís like, when I lived in Cooktown we lost power for a week post cyclone before the crews could find the broken line along the creb track near Cape Tribulation. As for the storm Iím not worried if it reaches here or not, just in awe at how far itís travelled. Garden and plants have had a nice drink for a week or so.

We have gone longer without power. Just a pita when everyone else has it and you don't. If I had not noticed the transformer issue we still wouldn't have it. I was beginning to worry about the 2 freezers full that insurance would not cover.

Tonight was nice and mild storm. Bit of rumbles, bit of light show, some nice rain. Last night even had hubby jumping and he is half deaf and loves storms. I think he needed new undies when bits of plastic were flying through the room accompanied by a sound like a gunshot. Our ears were ringing for a good few minutes after that one.

Sons dog was so terrified that she was trying to get out of the house to run away from it.

There is no rest for me. Back to having 2 dogs under my feet, shows their terror because without a storm they can't be within 20 feet of each other without trying to kill each other, but are now a foot apart under my feet.

I have a storm sitting over the top of us.

At least I know my house is safe from the last one. Insurance co sent out a sparky to check the wiring and such to make sure the house wasn't going to burn down. That was nice of them. I was able to give him another job down the road at the oldies place. They too had similar issues.

We got 12ml from that storm. Son in law who is camped down the river with my son and a couple of others got slammed by the storm. Son's boat filled to above the floorboards. Everything is drenched including the insides of the swags. Poor boys. grin

I could see the worst of it was just to the south of us. Just where they were camped. Lightning strike hit close to them too. They probably need new underwear this morning.

The storm has certainly be slow moving. It is only just off the coast now.

I am hoping it stays down there. I don't want it. I am back to having 2 house dogs as it is all rumbly here even though it seems to be east and north of us. There is also a bit out the west and yours to the south.

Of course with the rain that we just missed but hammered down a few k from home the roads are playing submarine again.

I think when I go to town Monday I will restock the pantry a bit more.

Just told the daughter who lives around a corner or 2 from you how much has fallen. She was surprised it was that much. She doesn't have a rain gauge.

Holy crap Coldfront, thatís amazing. This is strange weather itís just muggy as hell in Gladstone. With the MT set to make a proper appearance soon I have a feeling we may be in for a surprise in the next couple of weeks. Access is showing a CS low on the end of its run. For the last 2 runs anyway.

I'd love to be able to share it around. We don't need it at the moment after a few days of wet stuff prior to today.

Nearly 300 mm in 5 days.

A couple of models hinting at a low in the CS in their extended runs.

A few locals here around Rocky saying that the wet season is all over.
We got a few storms Oct-Jan, but thatís it. The monsoon never arrived, and the La NiŮa was a complete non-event. Oh well hereís to 18-19 wet season.

A bit early to say the wet seasons over. Feb/March are our wettest months. I think in 2 weeks time the models will be painting a better picture. Some years we get early starts to wet season others we get buggar all Dec/Jan and then BAM down she comes

Could be the case, however Iím starting to get a bad feeling that this could be a very poor wet season. You see I planted pumpkin and every year I have done that in the past the wet has failed to arrive. My spring tomatoes did well with those few storms, but the pumpkins are really struggling in the current dry spell despite this mythical La NiŮa were ment to be having.

Correct me if wrong but wasn't last summer hotter. I found this on my FB feed from last year :

January 13, 2017 ∑
A very humid day today, just disgusting outside. Very tropical ...

CURRENTLY AT ROCKHAMPTON AP

Temperature 36.2įC rising
Dew Point 25.1įC steady
Feels Like 45.1įC

I remember it getting hot last summer but not sure if it happened after Christmas, I do not recall a lot of SE/E wind changes like we're getting this year.

Fairly disgusting here today, little cells popping up around us. I had a really cold Christmas in the northern hemisphere, got down to -27deg c, so this has been a bit of a welcome back to summer for us. Only recorded 25mm of rain while we were gone, it is very dry here again. The Fairbairn dam is down to 26%, so rain would be welcomed.

Yeah it woke me up .

96mm in Perth WA in their "dry season " ! Wow ...

Living near the beach when we got that 35 it peaked around 11am and we got quite a decent NE seabreeze from then onwards and in the morning it was dry so really was never that uncomfortable.

Is it fair to say this summer has been more like a few days of intense heat then cool ? compared to last year being many warm days in a row ?

We have had the odd morning shower here and there but nothing substantial.

What's the point of this humidity if no rain with it.

Next week wind dies down for 2 days and later in the week back to you guessed it SE/E winds !

We scored a lovely 6.5 ml out of those passing scuds last night.

Bit of a rumble coming from that cell over Mt Morgan... think itll blow west though due to the wind coming from the east.

Not only is there a lack of rain, the air is quite dry on the coast today, actually quite pleasant for January.

Storms to the west. They like to travel the highway north.

7mm out of that little storm, amazing how much lightning it created. Forecast looks a bit better than the last couple of weeks.

Yeah going to stop relying on the BOM forecast and look outside the window instead.

Looks rather cool on the weekend, BOM Meteye has feels like temps of just 18 deg during the day.

Yes the falls in CQ have been very sporadic, heavy falls in random isolated spots and next to nothing for the remainder. Had no rain yesterday but just had 7mm this morning from a shower.
