its fascinating stuff. I reckon there may still be plenty we dont know about the range of effects the oceans have. Amazing how far that knowledge has come over the past 30 years.

Which is why it'd be nice to think the scenario below has at least something in it for us.
At least it looks like temps might ease back from around the end of next week

Will be interesting to see if our area can get anything or not.

Fingers crossed Ken

Just looked at the Brisbane forecast for the next week and as expected, heatwave type conditions. Oddly the BOM have gone for a chance of showers every day except for Sat and Sunday where we wouldn't expect anything to happen. From past experience during a prolonged Brisbane heatwave, we just don't get showers so again the BOM are on drugs again, like a couple of weeks ago where storms were forecast every day and none appeared. I hope again I am wrong but sounds a little crazy to me.
Again I would forecast this period as Fine and Hot 23 - 34 virtually every day til next Thursday. I have never seen showers in 'Brisbane' during a heatwave period, except at the end of the heatwave.

We actually did have storms in SEQ on two of those days, one of which I posted photos on here. Didnít hit the CBD though.

The expected heatwave is close to the same dates and duration as this time last year.

Yep, it is exactly the same for me. On 11 & 12 Feb last year I had a maximum of 41C and 44C, respectively.

Interesting stats for the first 10 days of Feb locally, really showing the influence of the persistent ridge and drier air...

Temp anomaly to date minus 3.4C,
Grass min anomaly minus 2.5C,
Dew Point anomaly minus 3.0C,
MSLP anomaly plus 2.3Hpa.

The next few days should address the temp anomaly.

Coxy, Absolutely I have been wrong on this one for the first 2 days of the heatwave. Really totally unexpected results so far. So for the record I am on the drugs, not the BOM on this one smile

A week away IF EC and GFS hold with their forecast there is a upper low to form over SE inland QLD middle of next week with a moist onshore flow. Looks like a good heavy showery with possible thunder setup good for coastal regions and nearby hinterland who has missed out on the storm action this week.

Edit: If I remember correctly something similar happened last year after a long period heat event in February there were quite a number of upper troughs/upper lows that produced above average falls in March in SE QLD and NE NSW that finished with a you know what.

Pray that EC is right because tonight's GFS looks garbage.

Fingers cross for EC. It has a nice little coastal trough enhancing rainfall. I feel that the faster that TC Gita can bugger off the better off we'll be with a more moist easterly flow.

Itís probably part of that wet signal that was appearing in some of the multi week ensembles for a section of eastern Australia for a couple of weeks now for later this month/early next month.

Also looking like it might get a bit windy along our coast by Tue/Wed as a surge of SE'lies pushes up with some showers.
At least it'll get a bit cooler.
Might check out the powerful surf along the coast today or tomorrow if I get time.

I did not realize there have been recent comments on this thread. Here are My amateurish thoughts. Looking at WATL and that dry spot over inland SE QLD(west of the Brisbane River and through most of the Eastern Downs just to avoid confusion). For us it looks very grim. It is amazing that a cyclone has traveled halfway across the Pacific to perfectly position itself to keep out what looks like another big event for large parts of QLD. Everyone else enjoy the rain.

Yes Pete, we just can't win out here. This is not our year. The southern Darling Downs right now is looking really brown. Some areas like Allora and Maryvale and surrounding areas doing much better than most. I'm just looking forward to winter at this point. Sitting at 37mm for the month so far. So glad we had that steady cool rain the first of the month. For the second straight year we have been quite humid for this far inland. I am only going by how it felt compared to years past and what locals are saying also.

Here at Wynnum Nth in a supposedly wettish area, we are only 83.8mm for the year so far.

I'm surprised were not getting showers now, looking at the charts were getting SE winds?
