Great start to the year for Nick Kyrgios, winning the Brisbane International.

https://au.sports.yahoo.com/tennis/a/38517347/nick-kyrgios-wins-brisbane-international-tennis-title/

Sydney International has also just started.
Going down to Sydney tomorrow night for the Sydney Fast 4 tournament. (an exhibition event). Should be a cracker.
Great venue down there at Sydney Olympic Park as well.

We have probably heard too much about him but for the wrong reasons. Possibly too much pressure on him at such an early age?
I do feel sorry for him and I do think he needs to seek professional help. I'd forget about tennis for the moment. Get your head right, mentally & emotionally.

well if he is not in a good place mentally , going on that stupid tv show will turn out to be a really poor decision because now everyone is up him. I think he has had a taste of the temptations in life and lost the desire. No way you can compete with the big boys without the desire & determination to get to the top. Maybe he doesnt have the ticker to reach that level, which makes him a normal person pretty much.

Huge win for Thanasi Kokkinakis over Federer in Miami:

https://au.sports.yahoo.com/tennis/a/396...-at-miami-open/

The Kokk has always had this potential, but injuries have curtailed his young career to date, so this is a big win in a Masters 1000 level event.

Wimbledon final tonight in the Mens, hoping Novak Djokovic wins, but will be happy for South African Kevin Anderson if he gets it as well.
Going to be a long night watching tennis and soccer.
Serena Williams just came up short in the Womens.

Well done to Aussie John Millman, defeating Federer and into the QFs of the USO:

https://au.sports.yahoo.com/millman-makes-grand-slam-history-incredible-federer-feat-031738427.html

With all the hype around Nick Kyrgios, it is good to see a battling journeyman like John Millman finally get rewarded for his hard work.

yeah WOW is a good word to describe it. Pretty peeved actually, firstly no one has a right to speak to an umpire in that manner. second to make it into a sexist play is disgraceful. The umpire is focusing on a lot, sure Williams might not have been watching the coach, but the ump was and a warning was given. She wasn't further punished until she started acting like a twit.

The real story is how she managed to totally ruin the single most significant life moment for her opponent. The media need to shift away from this self absorbed brat and onto news articles about the glory of Osaka's win.

Never have been a fan of Williams and today I was reminded of why.

I just don't get it. Today the media are trying to convince us how harsh that particular umpire is and laying down more crap about sexism. What about the female Williams went to town on back in 2009 and again in 2014 ! Sexism?

Hello, any one out there in the MSM want to do a story on Osaka? Appalled.

After doing some research, it sounds like the situation re: Women's Final...was not clear cut. I'd also be careful given what Dr Claire Wardle of the Harvard Kennedy School said about disinformation.

btw this ridiculous blow up over a cartoon is just another example of this world gone crazy and so PC that one may as well give up giving an opinion just in case anyone in the world may take a little offence to it. I seriously hate the world I'm bringing my kids up in.

It ain't the first time that Williams has pulled such a stunt in an US Open Final. A refresher below in her loss to Sam Stoser in 2011 below:

its funny you mention that Beltane, a fb post of mine from 2011 popped up this morning about Stoser winning on this day in 2011, in it i question Williams abuse of the umpire in the match. Seems we have a history of it.
Should also point out in 2009 Serena Williams threatened to shove a ball down a line persons throat at the US open.

Thanks Teckert.

On the tennis she does indeed have a history of it. There was another incident in 2014 regarding a foot fault.

My political leaning is no secret, however the blow up over that cartoon is so absurd it beggars belief. I think the cartoonist nailed it. Though I suspect there are plenty of women's libbers of all political persuasion jumping on the sexist card.

The manner in which it has completely overshadowed the achievements of Osaka is frankly disgusting and I don't need some Harvard expert to tell me otherwise. I saw the blow up with my own eyes so it is hardly fake news.

I think Serena has a real future after tennis. As a spin doctor for a political party. The way she has been able to turn a complete ego driven tantrum into a defiant stand against sexism in the sport has been nothing less than masterful.👏👏👏

BUT a lot of fools have bought into it. Not once has she complained about the fact that women only have to play three sets at most to garner the same prize money a man has to play five sets for. Selective sexism I guess!

What would I know, Iím a middle aged male, everything is my fault😂😂

Bernard Tomic has won his first ATP title in Chengdu in 3 years:

https://au.sports.yahoo.com/incredible-scenes-tomic-breaks-three-year-title-drought-223148951.html

This virtually guarantees him direct entry into the AO next year.
