Some good storms going around the Coonabarabran area, moving into the NWS&P's.

Currently 26.7C, "feels like" 28.4C.
Thought it felt hot and muggy for this evening. (74% humidity)
No repeat of a mild day like yesterday, forecast of 28C was reached (which is still below average for Jan here anyway, average is about 30C), back to 34C tomorrow and 39C by Saturday.

There looks like a cell just passed over Sydney, now on the northern beaches turning red.

A small red cell popped into existence in Sydney's SW suburbs a little while ago (near Canterbury) and tracked NE'wards over the CBD and Manly. OH picked up 2.6mm. There was no rain forecast.

There was no lightning on the radar. It hasn't rained here, but maybe there'll be more similar cells, maybe with sparks?

------

The cloud stuck around here all day and it's still overcast. The Sun tried to break through in the late afternoon but without much success. The satellite is showing a few more gaps in the cloud, however. Hopefully more sun tomorrow, I'm not a fan of grey dome skies.

EDIT: Trumped by Stormy.

VERY sticky out here this morning, arm sticking to the desk.

Gunna be warm today!!! Tonight will be no fun.

At least out here we should have a nice cool morning on Sunday - looking forward to using a blanket again even if only temporarily. smile

Next week hot again as mentioned before, week after that looks similar again.

I chased those storms up to the Quirindi area yesterday. Very lightning active, with quite a few close bolts. I saw one strike the ground less than a kilometre in front of me, causing a bright orange fireball where it struck. That was the first time I'd ever seen lightning actually strike the ground fairly close to me. There was some blue/green tinge to the clouds too, but no hail. The storms didn't have a severe storm warning until they had moved further north onto the Northern Tablelands.

Very late peak and past the forecast max of 34C, currently 34.7C and certainly "feels like" that as well.
IN fact, "feels like" 41.1C on the screenshot, it feels very hot, but not quite sure about that level of difference though.

There is some activity about, e.g. Southern Ranges and slopes, upper Hunter. The forecast for Sydney issued at 4:20PM indicates the 'slight' possibility of a thunderstorm in the West this evening, but it looks unlikely. With this barrelling sea breeze, if anything does form I think it would be unlikely to reach the coast. Tomorrow afternoon with the change would be a better chance.

-----

Penrith and Richmond reached 36 today, 1 over the forecast. How hot it gets tomorrow (and maybe storm chances) will depend upon the amount of cloud and the timing of the change - BOM forecast says 'late', my interpretation of the models suggests early afternoon for the coast.

------

Looks to be a significant heat outbreak next Thursday- Friday, with max temps of 45 forecast in Penrith and Richmond next Friday.

Some very hot temps in the NW of the state recently.
Only a matter of time before some of this heat drags over to the central east. 46C in Smithville today.
Ironically Penrith has had the hottest temp so far in the country this month.

I dunno Steve, storms seem to be reaching the coast with no trouble at all down south so if anything did form west/NW of Sydney it would probably make it to the coast. I doubt anything will actually eventuate though.

Yes, after a pretty significant but short lived cold outbreak for mid-summer with 850 temps down to 4-5C in our areas to 1C in the Snowy Mtns on Sunday morning.

I really do reckon the rain band will make it to the coast cause this rain is associated with a pre-frontal trough. But the totals if does will be very meagre.

I've seen flashes from here in Sydney's north west.
It's incredibly lightning active judging by the lightning tracker.
