Which is funny considering the forecast and then being in a DTSW laugh

Quote:
Forecast issued at 4:25 pm EDT on Friday 12 January 2018.
Forecast for the rest of Friday

Wollongong area

Partly cloudy. Winds northeasterly 20 to 30 km/h tending northerly 15 to 25 km/h in the late evening.

It does mention chance of any rain at 10% but still. poke

haha typical BoM...

Anyways anyone living in southern Sydney i'd suggest you look southwards unless you have Epilepsy. One of the best light shows ive seen in a while. Heaps of crawling lightning across the sky, Looks quite like a warzone. Shame there is a bit of low cloud that hinders a the view but still such a beaut.

Can confirm, I am in the Southern Highlands and was treated to two of the most lightning active storms I have ever been in. There has literally been constant flashing for nearly an hour, it's incredible. There were some bloody close strikes!!

Nah no hail, just torrential rain and a decent amount of wind at one stage. But the lightning was out of this world, even Andrew Miskelly said that it's the most lightning active storm he's ever seen.

Copping a sudden gust of wind like in a real storm. I'd estimate around 40-50km/hrs.

That is a great link Homer. There are still near constant flashes and lots of CG's and these storms are all the way on the coast now. The Illawarra coast must also be getting hammered, they have been lucky with storms lately.

I've posted that link here many times.
What I like most about it is if you zoom in, it also shows the radiating sound wave of the thunder.
It's a fantastic site and remarkably accurate from my experience.

It's the outflow winds associated with the thunderstorm activity that was/is over the Illawarra.

A bit more information about outflow here: http://www.theweatherprediction.com/habyhints/146/

6000 strikes in one hour from the Wollongong complex, surpassing Sydney's 5000 the other morning and even that was out of this world.
