we managed 2mm over night from 1 heavy shower. A much heavier shower formed just to the north and east and hit Cessnock. Close but no cigar. No rain heavy enough to make a puddle since 6 Jan.

A BOM guy talking about the heatwave in QLD a day or so back said they could continue into April. Awesome.

Nice to see the days shortening Dave. The sun is highest in the sky at 1.16pm out your way. Do you have any idea how things are sitting historically for Bathurst with this extended heat jive. Such a long stretch at 650m.

Loving it! Much better than those southern maritime patterns that would make a complete embarrassing mockery of our Summers.

The Olympics look safe from any warm weather which seem to curse it every time. I remember Darryl Eastlake at the Calgary Olympics reporting from the ski jump when it was 17C in a strong Chinook.

Hi All,

Love reading these forums, it is my go to place for anything weather related. I will contribute where I can and report on the weather in my area when possible.

Have currently recorded 13mm this month at my place. Really need a lot more to get up to the monthly average. Getting sick of watering plants and veges everyday

Hi Knotty - I've not looked into it statistically but I know from my own experience that so many runs of well above average days are NOT what we traditionally expect out here.

It used to be several warm to hot days followed by a cool down then a gradual warm up again. It used to generally have the general sine wave pattern for much of the time, occasionally then you might have a bit of a run of hot or cool days.

Last several years though it seems to be run after run of well above average days. Times when we rival average temps for much hotter places than here, eg Narrabri, Dubbo etc.

I really hope we can get a few cooler years or even just average years somewhere.

Welcome Sim
Thanx for info Dave. Maybe Bathurst has sunk to Dubbo elevation he he. If you have a beard,(i sport a full one) let's hope for some icicles in it. If not this winter at least some day.

Pretty warm here.

On another note. Perspective is amazing. From up above beautiful. From ground level. Terrifying.

P.s. For a minute I thought you said Nairobi Dave lol

Well last winter was very frosty out here, days were warm and dry but frosty.

Who knows what this year will bring - as always just have to wait and see. smile

Pretty warm outside, around 32 and the atmosphere very hazy, largely from the fires around here although luckily not much smell of smoke. Small blessings. smile

Trying to plan a Newell Highway trip from Canberra back to Hervey Bay next week and avoid exceess heat. So I will keep an eye out for any updates on that inland NSW/QLD heat.

Welcome to the Forum Sim78B.

----

I drove throw some heavyish showers in the early afternoon, in the North Ryde and Lane Cove areas. It was enough to wet the roads and to turn on the wipers. However, nowhere in the district seems to have recorded any rain (e.g. North Ryde Golf Club). Forestville in the Northern Beaches area had an isolated fall of 11mm. After the showers, it cleared to a mostly sunny afternoon.

----

There's a total fire ban across much of the state tomorrow, including the Hunter, Sydney and Illawarra regions and adjacent tableland areas.

Bathurst managed quite the trifecta last winter - highest average maximum on record, lowest average minimum since the 1920s, and lowest rainfall on record.

Going for 40C tomorrow, here's hoping that is the last such day of the season.
Ironic it is Valentines Day, and have the day off, may even go out for lunch at the local Nursery, heat and gardening.

Surprised there hasn't been much talk of the heat tomorrow, especially since it could be warmest day of the summer for some coastal areas as it looks like there will be no sea breeze anywhere on the coast on GFS, except maybe very exposed parts. So should be high 30's across the board with Hunter getting into 40 as Derek says. Only going for 31C here but interestingly the 24hr WZ forecast shows westerly winds all day but only getting up to that 31. I'd go for 39C.

Looks like it will be very low humidity and a bit breezy so I would expect for some fires to break out given that it's also so tinder dry.

I haven't checked the moon phases but I hope the loonies with their matches stay indoors.
The term "total fire ban" seems to drag them out somehow.

Have been watching tomorrow from aways out WR. Mainly due to fire potential. Fortunately the winds arent going to be too bad. If that front was peaking a bit higher into the state, it could really be catastrophic.
Really 45 is the new 40 around here. We have had so many 40+ degree days last summer and this summer, that 40 just seems run of the mill. Thats why there was not much convo at my end. Basically been there done that all summer long. For coasties it might be a different story.

Im watching some wet weather get inside the 7 day window....and it does indeed seem that this slight shift in the positioning of the LP systems and the upper atmosphere conditions, might turn us wet from this weekend. Its the best its looked for a while. Can sense a little shift around here with these daily southerlies and general instability lurking.
