Ashestoashes - that's pretty impressive. It's hot Olympic Park, the Airport and Observe Hill too and as far west as Badgerys Creek. shocked

I don't think there would be a person alive that would enjoy a cloud heat cap night coming up. For my money it is the absolute low point of anykind of weather. Stagnant.

It looks like a red cell went over the site of the Royal National Park Bushfire about an hour ago. Hopefully that helped.

-----

Muggy and overcast here but no sign of any rain or storms.

Re storms, I think those that form over high ground tend to fall apart when they move over lower elevation areas. So they often fall apart when they come off the Blue Mountains. In the Illawarra, high ground comes very close to the coast so they're more likely to reach the coast there.

Re sea breezes, they interpose a layer of cool, stable air between the ground and higher up, cutting off convection. It's a bit more complex than that, however, because they do inject more moisture into the setup. Maybe someone with more expertise would like to comment.

-----

All those 'showers' out to sea are false echos. It shows up when there are strong sea breezes even when there's little it no cloud. We've often had that in recent weeks.

------

Re Sydney forecast - I'd knock 2 degrees off the forecast maxes for OH for the remainder of the week.

To those who have access to long range models, is the 31st Jan - 1st Feb looking like the period that Sydney gets a nice cool change?

I don't care how it comes in, by a ECL, a southerly buster or anything, but my place and I are hoping for those beautiful graceful and sexy southerlies....

41C forecast was reached today, another 40C tomorrow, before a spate of above average days for the rest of the month.
Places like Tocal only just behind record 2017 levels, and may just pip it.

Cool change is here now in penrith. Dropping down to a freezing 38○C tomorrow. wink

And not a day over 40 for the next 7 days at least! Nothing under 35 either.

To be honest 40 is really the new 30 round these parts smile

So the definition of a desert is precipitation below 250mm pa, the last 7 months here have been inside that definition with only 141mm.

Nice band of rain moving in from the south-west but i'm quite sceptical on whether it may be able to survive the trip over the blue mountains.

Can it be?, there appears to be some rain headed our way, the radar currently showing something decent passing through Taralga and on a path towards us.

Yes it was a very warm night. It was a bit breezy and I thought there might have been a Southerly, but it was the NE'er, which continued through the night. It's just now being replaced by a W-NW'er in Sydney.

It was sunny earlier, but it's now completely overcast, with the thick cloud looking likely to stick around. The main cloud band passing to the South seems to include showers and embedded thunnderstorms.

We'll see what, if anything, develops here.

Already up to 31C, today's heat has come out of the blocks much faster than yesterday, which took some time to warm up.
A sequence of hot nights is looking on the horizon now, with above average day.

This is the sort of weather where I wish it would do something or clear up.

It's overcast, still, humid and about 26 here, as it has been for a few hours now. Those showers West of Sydney don't seem to amount to much. Places they are passing over (Camden, Mt Boyce) have only had 0.2mm, with places further West having recieved a millimetre or less.

The Hunter Valley, under sunshune, is now up into the mid 30s away from the sea breeze, compared to high 20s in Western Sydney. Scone, at 38.4, seems to be the hot spot in our part of the world.

Mid 40's in the usual suspects out west. Sydney area seems below forecast presently. But that can change on a dime.
Now this is weird. If you check out Windytv the wind map suggests a nor east flow in these parts. Except it isnt. More a ESE if anything. Boats pointing that way.
