It is just extraordinary to see parts of Sydney and Hunter scoring 40 and above without a continuous north west flow.

Its amazing that heat has travelled 1,000's of klm across the country only to stop dead 5 klm from the edge of the continent. Weather wise that's like being crashed tackled on the 1 metre line. .. 27C here on the central coast

Yes please bring it over the Southwest, much appreciated, but it seems to be dying off, why though?

Hurricane force NE'r, cuts off the convection.

That should be the explanation.....but how does that work when the Ne'r is 35 degrees!!

Actually there is very little wind here. Some nice dark clouds, but I highly doubt anything will make it this far. Shear is worse the further north you go.

Unfortunately not 35 on the coast frown Also Curious as to the over all height of a typical NE'r

NSW Rural Fire Service reporting that several more fires have been reported as a result of the lightning storm. None close to homes at this stage.

Hope they're contained quickly. frown

Id like to understand this dynamic a bit better too..... The storms died pretty much at Penrith, were the temps were still very high. Ie not really on the coast. And a storm developed and crossed the coast in the Illawarra so how important is the Ne'r?

I always believed that they shred storms, but when there is moist warm seabreeze doesnt it also contribute to development (at the seabreeze boundary) Its been a long time since early weather study days, so pretty rusty, but I think its more to do with elevation, lapse rates and shear. Maybe the strength of the cap also plays a role when the storms come off the ranges. Anyway see if storm pros have any further comments, because in conditions like these it seems the Ne'r might only be a fraction of the explanation for disintegration for places like Penrith and indeed areas like mine 40ks from the coast.

All that action off the coast is false I think,I wish it wasn't and it was heading west. There is still some small cells west of me here, but they are not going anywhere.

Where is this SEer coming from ? Getting up to 37 km/h according to Bankstown AWS. Nice and breezy! Doesn't appear on the forecast though?

I believe it's an outflow from the Illawarra storm that went through. It's actually cooling down the place though.
