As very surprise just had very slow lime boring thunderstorm boundary line, with small wall cloud, no hard rain and gusty winds of normal rain of 15mm, With strong S/SE winds. As pasted heavy CU flowing from E/SE to W/NW.

Looking NW, Horizon angle line.

Looking SW

Looking North...Strong S wind flowing and can see orange muddy humid is pushed out.

Looking NW Weak small swell line.

Really starting to see some nice rain trickling into my gauge, with 6.3mm so far.

The rain has eased a bit for the moment, but the gap that's closing in from the northwest is starting to fill in again as the main rainband from the Southwest Coast and Cape Otway closes in on Melbourne, and not forgetting the rather fat-and-juicy band of quite heavy showers and local storms over the Surf Coast, Bellarine Peninsula, Geelong, Bacchus Marsh/Melton and north to the Macedon Ranges! So the show ain't over yet, no sir. wink

Currently 19.4C.

Edit: 7.4mm and still rising! grin

Hmm.. big green flash in the sky to my north, was that lightning? Didn't hear any thunder and have never seen a green flash like that.

A green flash is power, not lightning (Or lightning struck something power-related), the green is copper

I've seen a couple of bright green flashes in the sky before before. Like really bright!
The second time I was driving towards the airport on the freeway when a massive green flash lit up the sky in front of me. As i neared the airport, I noticed a fire along the fenceline across the fwy which was underneath a power pole and the fire quickly spread to the trees underneath....I decided to pull over and call 000.

Within minutes the fire had engulfed several trees as the fire trucks arrived and put out the flames. It turned out to be the power transformer exploding, which is quite a common thing according to the fireman.

Steady light rain for past several hours. Will check gauge for event when it stops.

Significant microburst at Fernbank (15km or so WNW of Bairnsdale) around 4pm yesterday - many trees down and some structural damage in confined area. BoM East Sale confirmed.

Overnight low 13.6C, currently around 15.2C and overcast. This chilly weather, while a refreshing change, is a real shock to the system after the heatwave we've just sweltered through! But then again, this being Melbourne, it's nothing out of the ordinary. poke crazy

The rain was absolutely wonderful last night! I had the window open and was able to hear it whenever I was awake.

In the 24 hours to 9am I collected 29.5mm, making it my wettest January day on record. The previous record is 23.1mm on January 20th 2017.

My monthly total is now 61.1mm, and my Summer 2017/2018 total is currently sitting on 238.1mm! This recent rain/storm event should enough to hold off the bushfire threat for much of what remains of the summer. smile

Heard of 24mm at Sale just before, rain tapering off.

Very warm muggy, and now cloudy at Pambula, noticed the planes have reversed to land from the North not long ago, so a southerly change cant be far off.

Ended up with 16mm out of last nights rain!
Nice little drop even tho we didn't get near
The 30-50mm the bom forecast out our
Way.
Feels almost cold out there today, nearly
Broke out the jumper lol

By the look of the models, there is really no
Rain on the horizon and it slowly heats
Up again!

25mm in Sale.

TB - I was watching the sites as that 'event' ripped thru' Fernbank and lit up 2 x fires and 2 x trees on/adjacent to the Princes Highway.

Local ABC this morning had a Fernbank res. talking about it, said wind 100KPH or better and the event occurred over 5 to 8 minutes.

Was 37.4c yesterday 6PM and dropped to 23.8c at 7PM that's 14c big drop in one hour, usually we get just quick dry change as this cool change was wide southerly boundary flow between SA to VIC cool down deeper... inland SE Australia.

Some areas will feel like a camping fire for few days.

The talk returns to mist, cool breezes, nice cool cloudy standard melbourne days.

Just the way I like it. Boring weather.
