I think the updates are a bit slow for Walpeup. 9.30pm total is 36.9 degrees.

It's a very weak trough over the VIC/SA Border area atm, and it's predicted to weaken further tonight. The main cold front and deeper trough are still way off in the Bight and should (hopefully) hit the Melbourne area during the afternoon as forecast.

My bets are for a very sticky night, followed by a sultry day tomorrow with blustery northerly winds (without the humidity I'd be very worried by bushfires), before the change hits around mid-afternoonish, and then it'll finally cool down. I'm also hoping there'll be plenty of clear air and instability as the change smashes into the tropical northerly airflow, allowing for great storm development. And GFS is suggesting Precipitable Water Values well over 30mm across much of the State... so fingers crossed! wink

Ah, thanks ASF! smile I honestly didn't really look further afield for the main change. Phones gonna die soon and have no power so will have to try get some sleep. Up to 50,000 homes across VIC with no power. What a night for it. -_-

Hot outside at 11.20pm 31.1c and cant wait 6pm to midnight cool change Monday between 6pm to Midnight.

Heavy thunderstorms are likely all way from WA to SE Australia as fresh strong Southerly airflow winds reach all way to outback and cool down.

No worries Balmz! Hope you're able to get a good night's sleep, pity that so many homes across Victoria have lost power. frown

I just went outside, it's still around 30C here in Belgrave and the air is "thick with humidity".

I sure do hope the impending storm system and cold blast can take full of advantage of this tropical northerly airflow tomorrow and deliver us a desperately-needed soaking to help fight back the bushfire threat, with some insane mid-summer storm action to go with it. The past couple of weeks have been ridiculously dry, and for the most part since Friday morning this humidity has been stagnating, failing to deliver and going to waste. frown mad

Impossible to sleep, as it's 36 degrees. Everything is hot in the house, including the sheets.

Looks like our highest January over night may have gone down. The lowest we got to was 31.8 at 5.20, this morning. 32 at the moment

Wow Blackie - dont think I've seen such a high overnighter in Vic.

Would have felt just as hot for Balmz with no power - know what thats like after our 2 hour blackout tea time last hot event.

Minimum 25.9C here last night, house was like an oven.

I can successfully report back I did NOT get a good night's sleep! haha. Max 90 minutes or so. Power was restored just after 4am and didn't get a wink before that. Chucked the aircon on full blast and managed to sleep until my alarm went off at 6.

Will be hitting the wall at work today around the same time storms roll in no doubt.

Uncomfortable night for you peeps in Vic, partic Mildura way. A weatherzone news item mentions that the min for Melbourne of 28.4 was not a record min for Jan. The old closed site has a 28.8 in 1997. So that was a whisker warmer. But the article says the record is 30.6. Anyone have an idea where the 30.6 comes from? There is a 30.5 from Feb 1906 listed for same site. Cheers

They listed our overnight minimum as 31.4, in Mildura. From the records, it is a new record, as the old one was 30.9, on 24 Jan 2001. I remember that one too, as I spent the night on the front veranda, trying to sleep. Ha Ha I managed about 4 hours last night.

@Alex
there is a 30.5 for Jan 2009 from Melbourne Airport. None of the other CDO sites, open or closed, for Melbourne have a 30.6 that I could see. Not trying to split hairs or anything. Just had my curiosity piqued.
@Blackacubra
I think Mildura P.O site (closed) has a 35.6 in 1906. Its pre 1910 so I think bom might consider it an unreliable outlier. Who knows.

Overnight low of 27.2C, my hottest night for the 2017/2018 Warm Season but only my second-hottest night on record for the month of January. The 27.7C record on January 3rd 2015 still stands for now, as does my all-time record high minimum of 30.7C on February 9th 2014.

It was still 30C at midnight here in Belgrave, and quite humid. But thankfully I was able to sleep comfortably due to the air-con. smile

Currently around 34C and still very sultry; it's also gusty and partly cloudy with sunny breaks. It started getting blustery around 1am.

Looks kinda unstable too, and there's a bit of shower and possible storm activity on radar. Hopefully it's a precursor to what's to come! smile
