Cheers for the welcome messages guys.

Not too hot at the moment here, but the humidity is absolutely awful. Having to ride a motorcycle in full leather gear gets pretty damn uncomfortable quickly!

I think they're false echos. The satellite picture shows pretty clear skies over the area apart from what look like the sort if small puffy white cumulostratus clouds we have here.

It's almost clear with moderate E-NE'ers and about 29-30 here.

I can confirm even the radar dangles carrots in our part of the world. That is not rain just false echos. 22 days without a drop of rain. 3 months since we have had a fall of 25mm or more.

its active, but needs more tweaking, including better earthing.......
I need to be a bit patient too as it takes at least a few days to ramp up.

Models are so, so. At least the heat is going to take a break. No imminent tropical low for us unfortunately.

Sydney's pretty dry too, lawns are turning brown again.

Parramatta has had 28.6 mm so far this month, all but 4.6 of which fell in storms on the 9th. It represents about 27% of the monthly average, with 2 days to go.

Nearer the coast, Sydney OH has had 35.6mm, about one third of its January average, two thirds of which fell in storms on the 9th (recorded on the 9th & 10th). There's only been 0.6mm in the last 15 days. The coast does get bits and bobs blowing off the sea that don't amount to much. The last fall over 25mm was Nov 6, the only daily falls over 8mm since then were Dec 3 and Jan 9.

I did indeed grin!!
I think on current form on the track and in the skies would be Cloudless Skies in that race you speak of!!

Absolute cracking day here, breezy but mainly clear skies, humidity quite high though.

I don't see why are rainfall forecast wouldn't be higher because we have trough extending all the way from the north-west which will pass over NSW, but rainfall is quite woeful.

Not only is it not raining here, it is probably the clearest arvo in awhile.

Quite a few real time sunlight trackers on the net. This one from the U.S Naval Observatory http://aa.usno.navy.mil/data/docs/earthview.php

The last time Bankstown AWS scored more than 20 mm of rain was on the 8th of June 2017 when 60.6 mm was recorded.

Wowwee!

Hopefully, just hopefully there's at least a 20mm fall from this upcoming slightly wetter signal coming up.

Though the east coast is parched and really needs a lot more h2o.

Last time I remember a really wet day with some associated weather was way back in early April 2017.
Looks to be only a bit of coastal shower activity for NSW Thursday etc.

Most places in the Hunter going for around 35-36C today.
With such a spate of heatwave and above average days, many places will probably record their hottest January or hottest overall month for some spots.
Places like Singo are at 35.0C, and Scone at 36.1C.
Incredible, when unlike February last year, (eg 2 x 47C days at Singleton, including a 47.2C day), no individual daily records have been broken this month.
The cool change and below average day tomorrow will not be enough to bring the overall average down, and to stop it.

Re rain deficiencies discussion, sitting on 68.8mm for January so far on 9 days. Not bad, and while 36 on one day, the airport median is around 41mm and the rain day volume profile is consistent.

Today is the day! I've waited 12 long days for this. I am now hoping the cooler change comes quicker than expected. Looks like it is just on the other side of the border around Mallacoota and Gabo Island.

6-8pm would be nice to get the change so my place can actually cool off.

Relentless consistent heat Derek. As you note. No one day max temp records. Just day in and day out above average. The slow grind.
Seabreeze up.

Warm and mostly clear and sunny here, with light winds (Northerlies) and a few small fluffy white clouds. It's about 26-28 across Sydney. The sea breeze is up and running at coastal sites.

EDIT: rainfall totals for the upcoming cool spell seem to have been wound back, although Access is now hinting at some reasonable falls on the Illawarra and South Coast early next week.

Sea Breeze (Gale) is hitting its straps here at Shellharbour Square (about 1.5km inland). Just checked and it 22knots at Albion Park, but much lighter at Bellambi Point?
