Seems to have happened a lot in this warm spell. Bellambi has light N or NEer (sometimes as low as 5 knots) and Albion Park is much stronger.

Must be a proper S/SWly change then, rather than one of those shallow southerlies that just hit the coast. That will clear out the humidity and we're going for 19/18/19 for the next 3 days which is COLD.

Also there's a lunar eclipse tonight, I was told it will be a full one at 12:26am tonight. But as always the occurrance of any astrological event absolutely guarantees full 100% cloud cover in this area and going by the forecast, tonight will be no different. Only possible saving grace may be that the change comes through earlyish and then is SWly enough and dry enough (in terms of humidity) to perhaps have a bit of clear sky.

Yup amazing temps for mid summer, middle of the day, in that region - and even for Wollongong with the three in a row below 20! Ex Wombarra here.

The lunar eclipse begins around 10.50pm Wednesday night with Earth's shadow starting. A little over an hour later the moon will be totally eclipsed by Earth shadow. And another hour or so to end. Full moon will occur at 12.26am Thursday morning Sydney time whilst the Earth shadow traverses the moon surface.

Some of those very low temps in inland centres may have been owing to rain. They've warmed into the low 20s now - still pretty cool.

The change looks to have just passed through Uladulla. A Sydney arrival between 6:00 to 8:00PM looks about right.

I don't think anyone in Central and Southern NSW East of the Divide will be seeing the Lunar Eclipse - too cloudy.

Re the seabreeze, I've noticed it's sometimes been stronger inland than close to the coast. I think it might have something to do with a sea breeze front pushing inland, settling down in places where the breeze is established.

Rain here at Tuross and a very cool SE/SW change, although the rain seems like isolated cells aiming at us at the moment. Radar shows cold speckled cloud behind this front. NBN guys had to stop work.

Once again Norah Head over 30 with a nor easter blowing since early morning. Something don't seem right to me. It should be pretty much like Nobbys under such conditions. The additional heat must be coming from somewhere. Is it sea temp variance? Rock Platform? What?

Re Norah Head, it is definitely a warm site, compared to Nobbys, Bellambi and often even at times, Sydney OH.

I think there are a couple of things about the site that make it so. Here are some pictures I took several years ago.

14042012279 Norah Head by Steve, on Flickr

The Stevensen screen is in the centre-right of the picture. Firstly. there's lots of concrete nearby - the lighthouse, that concrete block house - both paited bright white. Then there's that circle of concrete around the pole. We also have that hedge / scrub along the North side of the site, giving shelter from the NE'er.

Then we've got a huge rock shelf, mostly exposed, even at low tide(?). I think there's a lot of reflected heat affecting the site.

That's my theory.

Good theory Steve.... seems to make sense.

So the next change has turned about a pathetic as possible....I would be surprised if it even rained here at all tomorrow.

Then it looks like a burst of showers on Saturday.....then a return to the blocking system.

At one stage at least it looked like a few days of showers penetrating inland.

Really are going to be in some serious strife in parts of NSW soon. Water restrictions to start in the Hunter from April- and the regions water supply is very vulnerable here as its too small for the population really. They tried to build Tillegra dam a few years back but had to put it on the back burner due to opposition. See what happens if this drought really sets in. Ive got a bad feeling this isnt going to break perhaps for a very long time. The blocking high doesnt care about seasons or ENSO or SST or anything else. If it stays we are forked....

Great info bout Norah Steve. Been there a zillion times but never gave the hedging any thought. The rock platform could be a factor. Gets redhot.
Need a grunty north/south trough Gringo. Not some pissant coastal shower stuff. But with this stalling high pattern in the SE Tasman being pretty much the only show in town I just don't know what it will take.

They wanted to build a dam up the top end of the Congwai valley as well Gringos Rain years ago, they was saying the Congewai creek will never stop running so the dam would fill easy,it has dryed up all together at the moment.

Anyone know where the southerly buster is now?
Cannot come quick enough to these scorched parts.
We do have a bit of an easterly now, which at least has taken some of the edge off it, but still low 30s.

I was just checking that now. It seems to haved reached Point Perpendicular around 5:30PM, in the sense that the wind changed to Southerly but the temperature hasn't dropped yet. The wind change has also reached Nowra and High Range (near Mittagong), without a significant drop in temperature.

However, places further South are cooler.

I think now it's mid to late evening. The BOM forecast for Sydney says "...turning south to southeasterly 25 to 35 km/h in the late evening."

Woz about to say that at least no site in NSW registered 40 today, until I noticed a site called Delta. Shux

@Waverider
glad you found that eclipse info helpful

Going to be interesting to see if any statewide records are broken for this Jan regarding av min, av max etc.

Looks like NSW monthly numbers will be similar to last year, in the top 3-4 but not a record. Tasmania and Queensland are currently running records for mean temperature, and Tasmania and Victoria for maximum, but by small enough margins that lower temperatures tomorrow will probably send all below record levels (just). Looks like 3rd warmest January nationally.

Bit of a weird southerly this one. It's slowly filtering through here but yet it's stronger on the highlands. Up to 33km/h in Kiama so should get stronger here soon.
