wink wink grin

This story isn't exactly weather related, but at the time was caused by strong winds and big swells.

All of the BoM's radar sites are down atm. At least that's what I'm getting.

With the talk of the sudden increase in water temperature around the Illawarra I was hoping to have a dip after work today. But I see the sea "breeze" is hitting 30 knots. I did have 4 surfs last weekend and the water was still 1-2C cooler than I like (my estimate was 21C).

I noticed yesterday while walking NMD (Not My Dog) that a few blue bottles have started to wash up. NMD tried to eat one, but stopped. Not the first time and if they have baked in the sun for a week or more she will eat a few.

Hay topping the state at 44. Nowhere near the Feb record for there. But still damn hot.

Norah head over 30 again in a nor easter. So many times this summer. Getting hotter there than Gosford or Cooranbong which don't really get the full impact of a seabreeze is strange. I know some possible reasons have been mentioned but still seems weird.

Incredibly, even if the temp reached the NSW Feb record of 48.5 anywhere this month, it still wouldn't make it into the top 10 for Australia. All but 1 of those 10 are in WA and the second hottest Oz temp for any month is one of them. Just a mild 50.5 he he

More than hot enough today, still 33.5C and aircon on.
Looks like a spate of hot days for the next week, maybe not hot enough to be a heatwave, but well above average.
Rainfall outlook looks poor as well, and with the tank empty and the bill from Hunter Water the biggest I've had at this house (built in 2012), can only hope things improve soon with only 13.4mm so far this year.

That is just a dreadful rainfall figure Derek. It's no wonder you are at your wits end. I really feel for you and anyone in the same situation.
Just hold out hope because this dry spell cannot continue for ever.
Your dams will be full at some stage, hopefully sooner rather than later. It WILL happen.

I've given up on my watering here trying to keep everything alive. I water the few vegies I have left in the garden from a watering can now and not a hose, after receiving my latest water bill. I poured so much water into them before Christmas but eventually, it just doesn't become economically viable to do so. I'm better off just going to the local weekend farmers markets and buying my vegies, or looking for specials at Coles or Woolies.
This weather has been great for any outdoor workers, beachgoers, sporting people, tourists and ice-cream vendors. Other than that, I just wish we could have a downpour of epic proportions.....just one!!
I got excited last weekend when I had a heavy shower that lasted just a few minutes, and I had already posted about it here before it finished!!! Desperate times indeed.
At least Sydney's dams are full. One saving grace for us in the big smoke.

Another beautiful, classic Summer's day, but since I've been looking after some gardens for our building, I want rain. Most locations around Sydney are tracking around 40% of average rainfall so far this year, and about the same for the Summer to date. For example, Parramatta has had 50 of an expected (average) of about 130 mm since January 1.

I drove up to the Hawkesbury area today. The car thermometer was showing 34-36 in the early afternoon under cloudless skies. It was not looking as brown as it did in early October, but it was still looking very dry. Dams seemed to be about half full or less.

Here's Pugh's Lagoon near Richond, a lake connected by a narrow channel to the Hawkesbury River. It is about a 80cm lower than the last time I saw it. It is not normally surrounded by a beach and I've never seen that old fence in the water before:

Technique is different, but how good would it be to be able to bag out on a species in five minutes!!

Nice pic Steve777.

Well the sea breeze was mostly a sea gale today, drying things out further. Black Cockatoos are flying around here in their hundreds for days now and the myth of rain remains to be seen and the charts that showed promise earlier in the week are quickly becoming disappointing again.

Here is a pic of Tomaree Headland from a day or two ago, someone deliberately set it alight. Its hard to see from this angle as the fire was on the southern side of the headland. You can just make out a bit of smoke and can see a helicopter dumping water.

There was some amazing photos on Facebook from Nelson's Bay side during the height of the fire.

Lovely photo Eddy. Firebugs are losers. Attention whores. On the scale of human soul sickness they rate high. Not as high as some other displays of soul sickness. But still high. I aint no hardcore greenie or anything. But trees are starting to look more sentient to me as I get older and more philosophical. Contemplative. I get now why Tolkien loved trees.

The weather is so repetitive and boring I could cry. Hence my rant.

Sky developing that milky appearance associated with heat. Some parts of HV already in 30's.
