Too close to call what rank Hobart will finish up with for January warmth, it is going to go down to the wire with 2003 ( record for overall mean temperature ). The margin might be as little as .05c ( likely in this months favor ). Tasmania's record warm January was 1961.. there's lots of yellow codings (records) for individual stations showing up in the Tasmania summary list right now.

Yes, a few vids doing the rounds of it snowing at the great lake hotel etc.

Clear night last night and the temp dropped sharply to an overnight low of just 2.9. Should start warming up again from here.

Enjoy the coolness smile

To me, indications are that Tassie should not be too hot in the next couple of weeks - certainly no obvious extended heat - hope that is correct.

Bound to be more heat though at some point, maybe mid month or later.

They have just confirmed it as equal warmest January for Hobart and second warmest for Tasmania ... so last four months is really something

Oct.....Hobart warmest, Tasmania second-warmest
Nov.....Hobart warmest, Tasmania warmest
Dec.....Hobart second-warmest, Tasmania second-warmest
Jan.....Hobart equal warmest, Tasmania second-warmest

Maybe that could be it for high monthly averages if next two weeks shows no obvious heat spell

That's not nice reading there Yep.

We really need to see that sort of trend stop, down there and up on the mainland as well. Getting a bit of a worry. I hope earth has a way of settling this down soon.

Having very hot years so close in succession is not something we can stand for long. The ramifications are horrible.

Need a run of cooler wetter years.

Once again I have to ask how the BOM can say showers increasing for Hobart at 7:00 am and not one drop falls. Really terrible prediction , what are these highly paid so called experts doing ?

Awesome second day of showers increasing forecast this morning and still not one drop. I'd like to see how far I got in my job if I was wrong by such margins every day , not far. Can I give the BOM the big hint , open the window and look outside . Leave those computer models to stockbrokers and horse punters smile
Anyways another heatwave of sorts coming and the place is still a dry old brown paddock.

Hi all,
Trace from showers yesterday morning and 0.4mm till 9am this morning.
H20 these are some really weakly forced weather patterns atm so very hard to forecast. Especially as they had southerly winds in them that can bring drizzle and light showers to Hobart.
So what is your forecast for Sunday H20? As there is another week feature coming our way?
We can see how correct you are!😛

BOM are saying light shower in the morning @ 20 % and a top 22 c.
Me I'd say fine as no chance of any rain and at least 25 c given the heat building from tomorrow on wards. smile
Either way the place is dry as a dead dingoes ...

Morning H20,
Had drizzle this morning and low cloud to 350m with a solid trace but just short of 0.2mm.
Hobartís Max as of 2pm is 18.9 degrees and now only 18 and fine and sunny.

Maxed out at 27.4 here... so far, still 27. 3rd day over 25, at least 6 more to come in this run, although mostly marginal (25/26/27). 18 of the past 21 days.

There were some showers around Friday arvo, just didn't fall in Hobart. NE had some good falls, highest total was 41mm. There was the odd thunderstorm in the NW as well.

Tough gig forecasting... BOM don't have to get it wrong by much for it to be noticed.

EC, Access & GFS all like a pretty solid cool change for Tassie mid next week.

I notice light showers crossing the state today - very envious of your temps!!! smile

That storm 2 nights ago over Perth/Longford was a doozie, places recorded 40-60mm in less than 2 hours. Picked up 3mm in a hurry just prior to this storm forming late Tuesday.

Anyway, just continuing to be warm. If the cloud clears this afternoon temps will shoot up to high 20's again.

Had a few rumbles and 10mm late Saturday from a few heavy showers. Starting to feel like we might be through the warmest weather.

Yes I think you guys may have peaked as far as extended high heat is concerned.

Obviously there will still be a few warm or hotter days but hopefully more and more milder temps.

I'm hoping our reverse out of extended heat will come in about another 10 to 14 days.

Still hotter than average and such long runs of hot days and nights. Really nothing like the weather that is traditionally associated with this area.
